Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 1-WEEK prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get familiar with your pattern and complete the pre-cutting before hand. It is important that you have your pre-class cutting completed. If this step is not completed, you will have a very difficult time keeping up and participating in the instruction. We recommend reading through your entire pattern before beginning.
Fabric Selection: A collection of Hoffman fabrics was used to make the quilt on the cover. Please refer to the yardage charts on the back of your pattern when choosing your fabrics.Preparing the Template Sheets and Foundation Papers: Please refer to and follow the instructions under 'Templates, Template Layout Sheets, Foundation Papers'on page 2 of your pattern. Cutting Instructions: Please read through 'Cutting Instructions' on page 3 - 5 of your pattern before beginning the steps below. We recommend checking our website for pattern corrections before you begin cutting your fabric. Note: After the cutting is completed please make sure all of the Template Sheets, Foundation Sheets, and fabric pieces are placed in the correct bags before coming to class!
Bag #1: Lonestar
Complete the instructions under Cutting Instructions: Lone Star: on page 3 of your pattern. Follow the instructions for stacking the Lonestar fabrics on page 5 and 6 of your pattern. Make sure to also follow the instructions for cutting swatches of fabrics! Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #1.
Bag #2: Unit E
Complete step 1 - 4 under Cutting Instructions: Unit-E, Background: on page 3 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #2. Do not subcut the Template sheets as Judy will demonstrate this in class!

Bag #3: Unit S

Bag #4: Border Template
Complete step 1 - 3 under Cutting Instructions: Units A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4: on page 4 & 5 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #4. Do not subcut the Template sheets as Jane will demonstrate this in class!
Complete step 1 under Border Template 3: Bag#4: on page 5 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in the bag #4.
Complete step 1 under Cutting Instructions: Template T1 & T2, Bag #4 on page 5 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in bag #4.
The following items will be used in class:
Sewing Machine with a quarter-inch foot and Accessories
Steam Iron- travel size is good if you have one.
Ironing mat small
12" or 18" Add-a-quarter ruler (the 18" is helpful when piecing the stars)
Purple Thang
6" by 12" ruler
Medium size cutting mat (18" by 24")
Rotary cutter 45mm or 60 mm
New rotary blade
Size 70 needles (Microtex recommended)
Scissors
Seam ripper
Surge protectors
Extension cords
Glue Pen (Fons and Porter, Sewline, or Avery recommended)
High quality cotton sewing thread (I personally use Aurifil, because it is a fine thread that presses flat.)
Flower pins
Scotch Tape
1 and 2 gallon; Ziploc, Glad etc. Bags
Stapler and staple remover
Binder Clips (Medium to large)
2” Paper Clips
