“Jesus Is My Idol”

Singing Competition Guidelines

Description:

“Jesus Is My Idol” is a judged singing competition put on by Crossroads Apostolic Church. An entry fee will be required to enter and a prize will be awarded to the winner. This is a fundraiser with all proceeds gained going towards the Youth department. All contestants will compete on Saturday June 1stwith the 2 finalists coming back on Saturday June 22ndto compete in the finale, which will feature Brian Hurst.

Guidelines:

1. Due to the nature of the competition, all entries must be of a religious nature. Any song deemed to not be “Christian” will be disqualified.

2. Songs will be performed with a soundtrack, acapella, or with live music on the supplied instruments. The instruments available for use belong to the church and consist of a keyboard, drums, and bass guitar. In order to keep the process streamlined and fair, there will be no setting up of other instruments outside of those provided by the church. The only exceptions would be an acoustic guitar that does not need to go through the sound system.

3. Songs need to be kept to a maximum of 5 minutes. If you have a soundtrack that is slightly over that time constraint you need to contact the organizer and consideration will be given based upon the actual time of the track.

4. Choirs are not allowed. A duet would be permissible, but keep in mind that this is a singing competition and the judges will be basing their decisions upon YOUR voice and performance; a partner could hurt you more than help you. Also, the emphasis should be on the vocals, not the music. The registration fee is the same for individuals or duets.

5. Each contestant should be prepared to sing at least 3 songs in the event that you should go to the final round. Three weeks later the 2 finalists will need to have 2 additional songs ready for the finale.

6. An entry fee of $30 along with a completed entry form must be received by May 15th. Any registrations received after this date must be accompanied by a $10 late entry fee.

7. There will be a minimum of 3 judges and the decision of the judges will be final and uncontested. Judges will be qualified and selected in a manner that will be fair and without bias. In the event that a contestant attends the church of one of the judges or is related, an alternate judge will be available.

8. Christian conduct will be expected of all contestants as well as any spectators.
