- Prior to the start of the lesson, place Resource 3a: posters around the classroom. Posters are best printed in colour at A3 size, if possible. Some of the posters are disturbing and may not be appropriate for all classrooms.
- Pupils enter room and take seats in silence; registration
- Starter: Review and sharing of previous lesson’s homework. Ensure the work was done, and that Point-Evidence-Explain were properly used.
- Main: Pupils will work in small groups to analyze a number of posters distributed around the classroom. The posters are drawn from different Barnardo’s campaigns spanning the past decade. Explain that their task is to travel from poster to poster (roughly 5 minutes each) and, working and discussing together, to fill a chart. They will use this information later to answer a question: display Resource 3b: Task Question.
- Display and distribute Resource 3c: analysis chart.
- Pupils begin the task.
- Task: Pupils begin to answer the Task Question, to be completed as homework.
- Plenary: Q&A about the posters: which did they like best? How was that image used? Why this font? Etc....
