(2) Explain what skin cancer is and how it is caused
(3) Analyse how SunSmart practices can limit a person’s risk of developing melanoma and other types of skin cancer / 5min
Activity 1: determining prior knowledge
· Draw 2 columns on the white board and write in one column: positive sun practices and in the other negative sun practices
· Ask students to jot down three examples for each column
· Go around the room ask for answers write them on the board
· Students to copy these in their books / 10min
Activity 2: PowerPoint and Activities
· Go through each slide and complete the activities when asked to
· Students to write down any slides that have an * besides the title and students are only required to write down dot points not the entire slide
· Students will need to complete true false questions individually
· Go through answers once students finished
· Students to work in groups of 2 for risky business activity then need to report their answers back to the class

· Class discussion of what they already know about solariums go through statements ask students for their opinions
· Read through solarium description ask students’ to write descriptions in their workbooks
· Watch 2 clips on solariums at the end of each clip ask students what they thought was the message behind the clips / 25min / Solarium PP slides 2 & 3
· Give students a brief background about Clare Oliver before watching the clip (clip 2)
Activity three: Solarium advertisements worksheet
· Students to read through the 2 advertisements and answer questions on the worksheet
· Go through questions briefly / 15min
