PALMER PUBLIC LIBRARY

POLICY ON RULES OF CONDUCT

Recognizing the need to maintain an environment suitable for studying, reading, browsing, and general use of library services, the Palmer Public Library Board of Trustees has established the following rules of conduct for all library users.

  1. Please be considerate of others using the library.
  2. Please be respectful of library materials and facilities.
  3. Please attend to young children in your care at all times.
  4. Eating and drinking are allowed in the Town Square area only. Please dispose of food and paper products in provided trash containers.
  5. Personal items such as backpacks and bags should not be left unattended in the library.
  6. Smoking is not permitted on library premises.
  7. No disorderly or disruptive behavior is permitted on library premises.
  8. No harassment of library patrons or staff will be tolerated.
  9. Sleeping is prohibited on library property.
  10. Solicitation is not allowed in the library.
  11. Conversations and manners should always be quiet and polite.
  12. Proper attire, including shirts and shoes, should always be worn in the library.
  13. Cell phoneconversations must be conducted outside the library.
  14. Bicycles must be stored in designated areas only.
  15. Skateboarding, scooter riding, and rollerblading are not permitted on library property. Skateboardsand scooters must be kept in backpacks or bags or stored on the skateboard rack in the Youth Services area. Unattended skateboards and scooterswill be confiscated.
  16. Animals are not allowed in the library, except those needed to aid people with disabilities.
  17. Prior approval is required to take photographs or to make video or audio recordings in the library.
  18. No weapons of any kind are allowed on library property.

Entering library property implies your agreement to abide by these rules while you are in the library. The staff and trustees of the Palmer Public Library thank you for your cooperation.

Individuals who violate any of these rules may forfeit their library privileges for up to one year and may be subject to state trespassing law (MGLA Chapter 266, Section 120), implemented as follows:

  1. Any library staff member who observes a violation of these rules will report it to the library director or, in his absence, the next highest available library administrator.
  2. The library director or other administrator will speak with the individual(s) about the reported violation(s).
  3. If the above individuals are under the age of 18, the library director or other administrator will notify the individual’s parents or legal guardian of the reported violation(s).
  4. The library director or other administrator may issue a trespass notice to any individual who has violated library rules, in accordance with Palmer Police Department policy.
  5. The library director or other administrator may notify Palmer police of any violation considered serious enough to warrant their intervention.
