April 13, 2016

The following persons were present: Tracy Kennedy, Charlotte Wiles, Cynthia Martin, Dick Black, Lura Powell, Patricia Ruskauff, Tabitha Fondren, Bonnie Carr, Kyong Weathersby, Jennifer Kransman, Sarah Holliday and Jennifer Hallum. Validation of absences was given for the following board members: Teresa Mullen, Sonya Maye, Pam Posey, Sherri McCourtney and Mary Ditzell.

Charlotte called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. Tracy made a motion to approve the minutes from the March meeting. Cynthia seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

The money from WAPC has been picked up and will be deposited. There were 20 teams total. There was a lot of activity this month. WAPC awards have already been ordered. Supplies for Special Olympics were purchased as well as the Chamber banquet tickets. We will be getting with area preschools to inform them about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Teachers have contacted us about making contributions. There have been two children enrolled this month. Lura made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Tracy seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Public Relations/Membership

Nothing to report.

Tobacco/Substance Prevention

Tracy and Tabitha are collaborating to get information on substance abuse to the schools.

Seniors

Dr. Black has been nominated for volunteer of the year.

Topics discussed:

The Chamber Banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 19th. Cynthia made a motion and Lura seconded it that the QOL may purchase up to 8 tickets.

Charlotte would like the community resource guide to be updated by May.

Child abuse awareness is this month. Tabitha brought some information on this. There will be a rally on the courthouse steps Friday @ 11:30.

Caregiver Support Group meeting will cover family caregiving. The speaker will be Gail Henard from Cedar Haven.

Arkansas Children’s Trust Fund hosting Pinwheel program to promote child abuse awareness.

The Back to School Bash is now being hosted by RMCC.

Bonnie got information on Blue and You.

This month’s guest speakers were Sarah Holliday director of the Polk County Senior Center and Jennifer Hallum, CEO of the Area Agency on Aging in Fort Smith. Both ladies informed the QOL of the services provided by the Polk County Senior Center.
