I am writing this letter to provide you with information concerning our Education Presentation. We are currently planning on bringing our Live Trophy Whitetail Buck display to five schools in Wisconsin. I would be interested in partnering up with the Wisconsin D.A.R.E. Program.

Our display consists of three live trophy bucks that are in an enclosed 26 foot trailer. The bucks are described as follows:

Thor: 7 1/2 years old

275 lbs (appr.)

appr. 185 – 190” Boone & Crockett (last year)

Shifty: 3 1/2 years old

200 lbs (appr.)

appr. 150” B&C (last year)

Redwood: 4 1/2 years old

250 lbs (appr.)

appr. 145 B&C (last year)

When we are at a school the students are typically brought out to see the deer in groups according to grade and usually listen to me lecture about Whitetails for 30 – 45 minutes. I talk about deer behavior, antler development, genetics, reproduction, etc. Younger students, K-3, end up with a shorter session which is a more hands-on learning experience. The students are not allowed to touch the deer. However, the younger students are allowed to touch polished and velvet shed antlers. This is a very rare display and is an excellent and interesting learning opportunity for students.

I am currently employed as the Chief Deputy of the Kittson County Sheriff’s Department in Northwest MN. One of our goals in traveling to schools with this display is to motivate young people to make good life choices. I have personally observed in my career that children who are actively involved in hunting, fishing, camping and the great outdoors in general, are less likely to get tangled up in all the bad stuff that exists in our world today.

I charge $1,250 per day for this display. However, $700 of this sum is already being covered by NADeFA-North American Deer Farmers Association, C.L.F.-Cervid Livestock Foundation, The American Deer and Wildlife Association, W.O.W.-Whitetails of Wisconsin, MN Deer Breeders Association, MDHA- MN Deer Hunters Association, and various other local sportsman’s clubs. In September and October of 2009 we will be traveling to twenty five schools. There are only five schools in Wisconsin that will receive this funding. Each school or community (or possibly the WI D.A.R.E. Program) will be responsible for coming up with the remaining $550.

If an evening event is scheduled, the additional cost will be $450. Evening events consist of me having the trailer open for public viewing for approximately 4 hours with 60 – 90 minutes dedicated to a seminar titled Understanding the Mindset of a Trophy Buck. During the seminar I will discuss mannerisms and behaviors of trophy bucks, rutting behaviors, scent application, food plots, etc. This information will aid hunters in harvesting mature, trophy bucks. Often, the sportsman’s clubs that plan an evening event following our day at the school, will include raffles of some type, a possible game feed, or just simply have Boy Scouts selling hot dogs or hamburgers.

The local newspaper and media is invited to cover both events and the sponsors will get some positive publicity.

Last year our 25-school tour of Minnesota was a huge success. We received great reviews from teachers & students alike. I have attached a couple of letters that we received. Photos of our bucks can be seen on our website at

John please let me know that you did receive this e-mail, and I will call you again next week. Is there a better number for me to call you on?

Thank you,

Steve Porter
