THE TERM AHEAD:
Term 2 is shaping up as a busy one. We have our College Fete coming up on Friday 9th May. See further details in the Newsletter. The Fete will be held from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm and all families are most welcome to attend. Our Annual College Athletics carnival will be held on Tuesday 27th May at the Athletics track in Hoppers Lane Werribee. Once again families members are welcome to attend on this day. There is a Curriculum Day scheduled for Friday 6th June, which makes it a four day long weekend for students. On this day staff will be working at the Professional Learning Centre at Altona College as there will be an electrical shut down at Laverton P – 12 College to facilitate the electrical connection of the new school gym.
SCHOOL COUNCIL OFFICE BEARERS:
At the School Council meeting on 1st April, Amanda Daniels was once again elected as our School Council President. Our School Council Vice President for the next twelve months is Sue Watkins. We thank both Amanda and Sue for taking on these important roles on School Council.
RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOUR / RESPECTFUL LANGUAGE:
Once again in Term 2 Laverton P – 12 College will remained focused on our priority in 2014 of ‘Respectful Behaviour / Respectful Language’ in each Learning Community. We expect all staff show respect to all students and community members and in return we expect the same.
Students are expected to respect themselves, fellow students, the staff of the College, community members and the College environment.
It is important to remind everyone that respectful behaviour / respectful language extends to travelling to and from school and whilst on school activities such as excursions.
Respect for self means taking pride in your appearance, being on time for school and setting goals to achieve and making a genuine effort to achieve those goals. Laverton P – 12 College has an expectation that all students will attend school neatly presented in school uniform each day and that they are on time for school. This means that students are at school ready for class before the bell at nine o’clock in the morning. Students not on time for school can miss out on important information that interrupts their day. Students arriving late also disrupt the class. All families are asked to support the College by ensuring their children are ‘on time’ each day.
WELCOME TO HANNAH PURCELL:
This week sees a new teacher to our College, by the name of Hannah Purcell who has commenced teaching in the Year 9 - 12 Learning Community. Best wishes to Hannah for her future at Laverton P – 12 College.

The questions will form part of the Talking Difference Portable Studio. The studio is on loan from the Immigration Museum which will be at Laverton Community Hub until Monday 19th May. This is a welcoming space which offers members of the community a chance to talk about what's important to them. People can respond to the questions put forward by our students using video, drawing, audio and text. This is a great opportunity for our students to participate in raising awareness of difference, belonging and racism in our community. Please support them by taking the time to go to Laverton Hub and responding to their questions.
How does it work?
The studio will be accessible during the Laverton Community Hub’s opening hours. There is a station where you can view the pre-recorded questions and you are able to respond immediately.
