Life Skills/Student Confidence Building Information Sheet

TheLife Skills/Student Confidence Building Programmeis designed for students in years 7-9. The course normally lasts for 6 hours, usually 3 sessions of approximately 2 hours with the sessions normally two weeks apart.

The programme is often used to support students who have low self esteem and need some additional support to help them achieve better socially, academically and in life in general. Schools often use the programme to target students who are regularly underachieving in class.

When a school initially contacts us, we usually discuss their concerns to ensure our programme is relevant to their students' needs. Typically, this will then set priorities for the training sessions.Aprogrammeis then devised which is tailor made for the students and school’s needs.

From our previous experiences we know the topics will often include:

  • Changing aggressive behavioural patterns
  • Confidence building strategies
  • Turning “negative” into “positive” thinking
  • Stress busters, saying “no” and building self respect
  • Team building
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Getting organised and study skills
  • Key steps to success in life.

Sessions might be organised as follows:

Section 1

An introduction to the programme with student questionnaires and small group sessions modelling appropriate behaviour inside and outside the classroom. Positive behaviour models are investigated with role play being used to develop more effective styles of communication. Students are helped through “real school” situations and are given the opportunity to review their own behaviour in small group situations.

Section 2

With feedback from the first session, students are encouraged to share their experiences and are shown different behaviour patterns. If students require more reflective sessions to build self respect, this is provided. Small group work is used to encourage successful team building situations and students are encouraged to use proven social skills to develop their confidence, team building and leadership qualities.

A popular option is to provide ideas and proven strategies to aid organization and study/revision skills. Students are shown simple, effective ideas to aid organization and study skills. “Real” school scenarios will be featured to personalize learning and aid confidence.
However, we emphasize again that we are happy tochange the training to meet individual school and student needs:

Session 3

After close consultation and feedback from staff, this last session is designed to review progress, set goals and prioritize successful behaviours, inside school. Students are encouraged to develop a realistic goal setting agenda and liaise closely with peers and staff to monitor future progress.

Location:School site. Total cost: £850.00 inclusive. Please contact our office to discuss your particular requirements.Duration:Approx. 6 hours, usually 3 x 2 hour sessions.
