Waterfront Director

Job Description

This is a full time, management position at Indian Harbor Yacht Club. The Waterfront Director will oversee all club activities that are water based including; adult and junior sailboat racing, adult and junior sailing instruction, dock/ mooring management, yard management, race committee accommodations, and maintenance of all club-owned boats. The Waterfront Director will report directly to the General Manager. They will work closely with club committees for planning and execution of regattas and other on-the-water events, including necessary website functionality. They will work with a team of ‘hands on’ staff, including the Dock Master, Sailing Director, and Junior Head instructor who are responsible for executing the tasks they set forth. The Waterfront Director is responsible for the long term growth and improvement of the club’s waterfront activities.

Job Requirements

-  Undergraduate Degree in business, sports management, or other appropriate area of study.

-  Extensive experience in the sport of sailing including instruction and race/regatta management.

-  Extensive experience handling all types of water vessels to include sail and power.

-  Understanding of maintenance routines required for all club owned vessels, equipment, and facilities.

-  Computer literate in database management, word processing, and spreadsheets.

-  Experience with event/ calendar planning, and program registration.

-  Experience with budget management.

-  Experience managing and delegating to others.

-  Excellent communication skills.

-  Outgoing personality, diplomatic, flexible, trustworthy, and goal oriented.

About Indian Harbor Yacht Club

Indian Harbor Yacht Club is located in Greenwich, CT, half a mile from I-95 and walking distance to the Greenwich Train Station. Established in 1889, Indian Harbor has a rich history of sailboat racing across the spectrum from junior sailing, to one design racing, to blue water racing. The club has had over 300 entrants in the Newport to Bermuda Race including 4 overall winners. Currently, Indian Harbor has the most active adult sailing program on Long Island Sound, and its fleet of 11 Ideal 18’s plays host to over 130 “Focus on Sailing Members” who take advantage of beginner, intermediate, and race clinics, team racing, weekly fleet racing, and cruising. The junior program offers kids the opportunity to take part in racing Optis, Lasers, and 420’s as well as exploring the Sound on various sailboats, kayaks, and paddleboards in “Adventure Sailing.” There are roughly 200 mooring available to members to keep their boats afloat in the protected waters of Captain Harbor, as well as a Dry-Sail area for One-Design fleets.
