EDUCATION:

The 2010 Statewide Assessments have been completed!

Congratulations to all of the teachers and students who participated in the 2010 Maryland School Assessment (MSA) and Alternative Maryland School Assessment (Alt-MSA). A tremendous amount of hard work is contributed to accomplish this daunting assessment requirement.

Irvine Nature Center:

ANIMALS, ANIMALS, ANIMALS: The Irvine Nature Center will be here in April. This hands-on program will provide students the opportunity to observe, touch and learn about a variety of live animals, ranging from snakes to insects. The Teacher-Naturalist will guide the students toward the discovery of unique animal characteristics and behaviors.

FUND RAISING:

CABIN FEVER PARTY:

Approximately 120 people, who were tired of shoveling snow, took a break from old man winter and came out for some fun and good food at our first Cabin Fever Party. Over $4,000 was raised for our students!

Of the 45 people who participated in the “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” Challenge, the following 4 people proved that they are:

Dr. Henry Miller

Gayle Purnell

Judy Kersse

Mary Shaw

Mary Shaw won the grand prize: A barbeque party at her home for 20 people, catered by Sweet Saviour-y BBQ.

DELREY DOINGS -2- April 2010

Many tried their skill at the Corn Hole Competition. The $100 grand prize winning team was Taryn Yanker and Jerry Bradley. If you didn’t get a chance to

play, don’t worry, we have decided to have a Corn Hole Competition at the May Fair. However, we are going to reduce the price from $20 a team to $10 a team. Since we are reducing the price, the prize money will also be reduced to $50.

Winners of the Chili Contest:

3rd Place - Dave Reines

2nd Place - Adrienne Robinson

1st Place - Fran Ring

Door Prize Winners: Amber Adami, Shirley Lee, Reginald Small, and Kate Demers

Winner of the 50/50 Drawing: Ron Clark

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success and thank you to everyone who came out to support Delrey School!

FLOWER POWER FUND RAISER:

Spring has Sprung! The UCP Delrey School’s current fundraiser is with Flower Power. A pamphlet from Flower Power has been sent home. This pamphlet displays many beautiful plants. Order plant bulbs and 50% of the proceeds will be given to Delrey. The plant bulbs will be sent directly to your home. Order some for Mother’s Day presents or for yourself! If you have not received a pamphlet or have any questions, contact Patrick Ritch at Delrey.

MAYFAIR:

The UCP Delrey School’s 7th Annual Mayfair will be held on Saturday, May 8th from 9 am to 2 pm. Attached is a flyer. Please let your family and friends know about this event.

The 1 Mile Stroll N Roll was such a success last year that we are doing it again this year. Registration flyers will be sent home shortly. The registration deadline for the Stroll N Roll is April 30th. This year, tee shirts will only be ordered in advance for those who have preregistered. Those who register at the Mayfair may order a tee shirt at that time.

Did you watch people playing Corn Hole at the Cabin Fever Party but not get a chance to play? Were you unable to attend the Cabin Fever Party and are wondering what we are talking about? Well, there will be a Corn Hole Competition at the Mayfair at a reduced rate! Instead of $20 per team (2 people per team), the cost will only be $10 per team. Corn Hole is similar to horseshoes but is played with a bean bag. So grab a partner and sign up! All winning teams will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 prize.

We are also having a flower sale again this year. Remember the Mayfair is the day before Mother’s Day. In addition to the flowers, we will have many vendors

selling wonderful items. Avoid the malls and do your Mother’s Day shopping at the Mayfair and support Delrey School.

Yes, there will also be a Bake Sale. So we need lots of donations from all of our wonderful bakers. If you are able to donate baked goods, please contact Christine Roache at 410-314-5000, ext. 119.

Volunteers Needed!!! We cannot hold fund raisers without the wonderful support of our volunteers. If you are able to help in any capacity, please contact Fran at 410-314-5000, ext. 101.
