Reflecting on 2010/2011 PBIS Activities/Planning for Next Year!
Read the questions listed below. What are some strategies to consider for next year? As a group, share your best ideas for strengthening your PBIS efforts next year.
Maintaining staff buy-in:
What did or did not work to get faculty buy-in? What strategies might help you get greater faculty buy-in?
Share data with faculty and staff to help them see positive changes
Ask for feedback on critical PBIS elements through online survey monkey survey
Conduct a raffle with staff as part of completing survey
Team Effectiveness and Efficiency:
How effective and efficient was your PBIS Team this year? Is there representative membership? Are there designated meeting times? Is there a pre-determined agenda and Team norms? Are tasks distributed among team members? Is data being used in decision-making? What could you do differently next year?
Follow TIPS meeting process
Assign someone to review data and bring priority issues to team
Use electronic visual format to display meeting minutes
Separate administrative functions from problem solving actions during meeting
Teaching Expectations:
Has your team supported ongoing teaching of lessons to support expectations beyond the beginning of the school-year? Have you used data to determine which environments need re-teaching? How can you ensure that lessons are scheduled and occur as needed?
Create a binder of lesson plans for each environment.
Develop a calendar for regularly scheduled lessons
Use data to determine which environments need more learning opportunities
Conduct specific roll-outs with targeted goal for decrease in ODRs
Acknowledgement System:
What are the strengths of the Reward System? What areas need to be improved? What are some suggestions that you have to improve the Reward System? What can you do to ensure that there is a system for teachers and staff to earn rewards?
Create a sub-committee or invite parent group into process for planning staff rewards
Use some ideas from list of rewards for adults
Develop a schedule for staff rewards
Pair staff rewards with number of rewards given to students
Discouraging Problem Behaviors:
Has your PBIS team developed a coherent referral process that includes procedures for handling minor and major problem behaviors? If faculty are not following the process, what do you think needs to be done so that all faculty are following it? Do you think the team needs to review and possibly revise the process? If yes, what suggestions do you have to make it better?
Review “Procedures for responding to Problem Behaviors” flow chart in your PBIS implementation plan.
Schedule time at faculty staff meetings to review behavior definitions (can be found on SWIS web site)
Consider simplifying the system to allow for greater staff consistency
