GRADE 3 FIELD TRIP & SLEEPOVER

SEPTEMBER 28-29 2017

Dear Parents,

As an introductory camping experience, the teachers of Grade 3 would like to provide your child with the opportunity to participate in the ‘Grade 3 Field Trip & Sleepover’.

When?

The Field Trip and Sleepover will be held on Thursday September 28th, until 3:30pm on Friday September 29th.

Where?

We will go on a field trip to the Shanghai Natural History Museum for the school day on Thursday and then come back to SSIS for evening activities. The students and teachers will sleep in the Gr. 3 classrooms/central areas and all other activities will be held on the school campus. The students will eat their meals in the school canteen.

Who?

The Sleepover is for all grade 3 students. This is an opportunity for your child to begin to develop some independence. Home-room teachers, as well as some single subject or specialist teachers, will supervise the students at all times. The guards patrol the school 24 hours a day and will be patrolling the whole school area on the night of the Sleepover. Please ensure all permission forms have been uploaded to Powerschool.

What?

What should my child take to the sleepover?

C  two sets of ‘play’ clothes for Thursday night & Friday – students WILL need to wear their school uniform on Thursday, but DO NOT need to wear their school uniform on Friday.

C  underwear

C  one sweater or light jacket/hoodie

C  some comfortable shoes to run in

C  pajamas

C  bath towel

C  toiletries – hairbrush, soap, shampoo (if necessary), toothbrush and toothpaste

C  pillow

C  sleeping bag or sheets / blanket

C  air mattress or thin mattress which the child is able to carry to school and put up by themselves (air pump if required for the air mattress) (optional)

C  swimming clothes

C  medication (if required). Notify teacher.

C  plastic bag for dirty/wet clothes

C  camera for field trip (optional and teachers will not be held responsible for any damage or loss)

Please ensure everything is CLEARLY NAMED.

DO NOT BRING:

food for sharing (except of course students who bring their own lunch and snack)

electronic devices and mobile/cellular phones. If they are found, they will be confiscated and returned to students on Friday afternoon.

What will the students do at the sleepover?

The students will participate in a range of activities which will be supervised by staff. An approximate program for the sleepover is as follows:

Thursday

8:30 Field trip to Shanghai Natural History Museum

4:30 Arrive back at SSIS.

5:00 Outside games / Showers

6:30 Dinner in the canteen

7:15 Evening activities (including games)

8:30 Snack and prepare for bed

9:30 Lights out

Friday

6:45 Pack up bedding etc…

7:15 Breakfast

8:30 Morning activities

9:50 Snack and playtime (as normal)

10:20 Morning activities (continued) + swimming

12:30 Lunch and playtime (as normal)

1:30 Movie in the school theater with popcorn/juice

What will the students eat at the sleepover?

Food will be provided by the Sodexo canteen service. It will consist of one meal and a snack while out on our field trip, then back at SSIS there will be four meals – afternoon snack, evening dinner, evening snack and breakfast. The students will have their usual snack and lunch on Friday.

How?

Students will need to bring everything for the sleepover to school on Thursday morning or even earlier during the week. Buses will then transport them home on Friday afternoon as normal.

Special notes

As the focus of this sleepover is for the students to have an away from home experience, they will be asked not to bring mobile phones or similar electronic or digital devices. The students will have more than enough activities provided for them throughout the sleepover and will not need them. However, your child may bring a book to read during their quiet time and a camera for photos of the field trip and their friends.

Please remember to clearly name ALL of your child’s belongings. With 70 students attending, there may be some ‘lost’ or misplaced items of clothing etc. We would like to return all of these items to the rightful owners.

If you have a question or issue to discuss in regards to the sleepover, there is a space for you to write it on the permission form. Alternately, feel free to contact your child’s homeroom teacher to discuss your concerns.

We ask that you return the following pages as soon as possible so that final preparations can be made by the teachers.

Yours sincerely,

Tim Bell and the Grade 3 Team
