Thompson-Robertson – June 3 ca. 1935

Former Alva Girl Is June Bride

Very impressive and simple was the informal wedding of Miss Miriam Lee Thompson, only child of Rev. and Mrs. LeRoy Thompson of Roswell, New Mexico, to Mr. Joseph Franklin Robertson, also of Roswell, which took place at four o’clock Wednesday afternoon, June 3, at the First Presbyterian church in Columbia, Missouri, before an assemblage of fifty guests.

Rev. Thompson was pastor of the First Presbyterian church here about nine years ago.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the bride’s father, the Rev. LeRoy Thompson, assisted by the pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Rev. Joseph M. Garrison. The church was charmingly decorated with beautiful floral arrangements and greenery. Bouquets of various spring flowers and spirea were arranged about the altar with a backround of tall Kanita palms.

While the guests assembled, Miss Ruth Harmon played a group of wedding airs. “Because,” by Harcelot, was sweetly sung by Miss Margaret Flynn and Miss Louise McCung. Lohengrin’s wedding march sounded, announcing the arrival of the wedding party. The first to enter was the bridegroom with his brother, Earl Robertson, of Roswell, as best man; followed by the maid-of-honor, Miss Bettie Lewellynn, of Muncie, Indiana; then the bride with her father, who gave her in marriage, and the ushers M. Ray Applegate, Muncie, Indiana, and Wallace Wilson, Roswell. The “Indian Love Call” was played softly during the ceremony. Following the acceptance and vows and blessing, Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was played.

The bride was attired in a smart tailored suit of aquamarine blue, trimmed with brown, a brown Leghorn hat and slippers of matching color. Her corsage was of Talisman roses and lilies-of-the-valley.

Following the ceremony an informal reception was held in the beautiful garden of Hendrix Hall, where the bride has lived for two years while attending the university. Punch and individual cakes were served. Miss Jane Rothenberger, Indianpolis, Indiana, had charge of the wedding book.

Miss Thompson graduated from Stephens’ college, where she was a member of Delta Rho Alpha sorority and received the letter S in athletics. Later she entered the University of Missouri, where she received a bachelor of science degree in the school of educaion.

R. Robertson is a graduate of Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma, and attended Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. He is connected with the Southwestern public service company, Roswell. After a short motor trip in the east, Mr. and Mrs. Robertson will be at home in Roswell.
