TRANSFORM SENIOR YOUTH WORKER - DAMASK

JOB DESCRIPTION

Transformative Education for Positive Relationships Project (Transform for short) is supported by the European Union’sPEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). Appointment to this post will be for a fixed term period which will end on 30 September 2021.

OVERVIEW

Transform is Youthlink NI, Youth Initiatives and Mencap’s contribution to the Peace IV Children and Young People’s Programme aiming to “enhance the capacity of young people to form positive and effective relationships with others from a different background and make a positive contribution to building a cohesive society”. The outcomes of the programme are focused on good relations, personal development and citizenship. It will target those young people aged between 14 – 24 years who are disadvantaged, excluded and marginalised, have deep social and emotional needs, and are at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behavior, violence ordissident activity. The Transform Senior Youth Support Worker in Lisburn will be linked with a support youth worker in West Belfast and together will use YI’s five phase outreach methodology to reach and connect 20 -25 young people per year to a transformative personal development youthwork programme.

  1. Title of Post:Transform Senior Youth Worker – Damask (East Lisburn)
  1. Job Description:

(a)To contribute to the development of the Transform Project through the design, implementation and delivery of the work plan. The project will deliver three clear outcomes Personal Development, Good Relations & Citizenship. The focus of the Damask worker will be East Lisburn linked for good relations contact with Youth Initiatives in West Belfast.

(b)To be involved in the design, planning and delivery of Transform for young people on the fringes of education, employment or training.

(c)To work withinDamask and Youth Initiativesand to ensure that the group programme aims, objectives and outcomes are successfully met.

(d)To organise the group programme in collaboration with the Project Co-ordinator and Youth Support Worker.

(e)To provide updates and reports to the Project Co-ordinator.

  1. Main Responsibilities:

(a)To implement the areas of work the Project in keeping with its overall vision and operational plan.

(b)To work closely with the Youth Support Worker on the design, implementation and delivery of the group programme.

(c)To liaise with and work in partnership with the other group programme workers and volunteers.

(d)To ensure regular feedback and reporting to the Project Co-ordinator.

(e)To engage in the design, planning and delivery of the group programme for young people on the fringe of education.

(f)To liaise and communicate with the Chief Officer of Youth Initiatives and the link person with Damask Board.

(g)To ensure that the agreed milestones and delivery targets are met so that tracing the implementation plan is effective.

(h)To process paperwork relating to incentive payments for NI project participants, providing assistance and advice to staff and project participants where required – to include completion of Start Notifications, Benefit Statements, Daily Attendance & Incentive Payment Forms, Change of Circumstances / Leave Notifications.

(i)To work within the ethos of Youth Initiatives and Damask, sympathetic to the core values that underpin their commitment to excellence in youth work and the promotion of equity, diversity and interdependence.

(j)To maintain sufficient records, reports and recordings on the group programme and to participate in regular reflection / supervision meetings with the Project Co-ordinator.

(k)To facilitate on a one to one and group basis periodic reflection / mentoring sessions with programme participants and support workers and volunteers.

(l)To undertake any other duties commensurate and agreed by Transform partners.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

This person specification outlines the essential and desirable skills required for the post.

Interviews: Candidates will be assessed using all the essential criteria.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Level 6 Qualification in Community Youth Work (JNC) or equivalent;
  • Minimum of three years experience in the planning and delivery of programmes in personal development, good relations and citizenship with young people most at risk from areas of disadvantage and social exclusion;
  • Experience of preparing structured analytical reports, documenting case studies and reporting, verbally and in writing, to staff and stakeholders;
  • Experience of monitoring and managing expenditure budgets, operating within agreed limits;
  • The confidence, and determination to deliver agreed targets and the ability to work effectively under pressure;
  • In agreement with the ethos and values of Youth Initiatives and Damask; commitment to working in a community relations context in an urban setting and commitment to working within a faith context;
  • Ability to use IT packages and maintain recordings on agreed programmes;
  • Ability to work on own initiative, as an accountable team member and to establish and maintain effective relationships;
  • Ability to provide suitable transport to undertake duties;
  • Willingness to be flexible and to work regular unsociable hours.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Experience of tutoring/assessing candidates on OCN NI Personal Development, Youth Work & CRED accredited programmes for young people at Levels 1 and 2;
  • Experience of working within a target driven environment;
  • Experience of managing staff or volunteers.

SENIOR YOUTH WORKER

Fixed Term Contract – ending 30 September 2021

Full-Time Post – 37½ hours/week

SUMMARY TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Transformative Education for Positive Relationships Project (TEPRP) is supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). Appointment to this post will be for a fixed term period which will end on 30 September 2021.

Remuneration:£22,658 per annum

Leave Entitlement:20 days per annum rising to a maximum of 25 days per annum, plus statutory holidays

Hours of Work:Will be 37½ per week, by arrangement with the post holder, although because of the nature of the work staff must be prepared to work unsocial hours. Hours worked in excess of the normal paid hours entitle the post holder to time off in lieu by arrangement.

Location: The post holder will be based at Damask Community Outreach, Seymour St, Lisburn BT27 4XG

Out of Pocket Expenses: Includes mileage allowance, incurred on the approved business of the organisation, will be paid in accordance with the Youth Initiatives: NI Terms and Conditions of Service.

Contract:The appointment will be on a fixed term contract until 30 September 2021, which includes a six month probationary period.

Pension: Eligible for membership of Youth Initiatives occupational pension scheme.

Other conditions of service shall be those applying to employees of Youth Initiatives NI.
