--FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE--

(Berkeley, CA) July 20, 2016—On Saturday, July 23 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Berkeley Humane will again host one of the largest annual adopt-a-thon events in the East Bay. This is the premier location for NBC Bay Area’s “Clear The Shelters” nationwide campaign, which encourages individuals throughout the country to adopt a shelter animal and help clear the shelters.

“With 20 Bay Area rescueparticipants, this event is huge. We will close down 2 full city blocks to accommodate the people and pets,” said Berkeley Humane Executive Director Jeffrey Zerwekh. “Pet homelessness is a solvable problem, if more people are able to open their homes and adopt. This event will include food, beer, live music, games and a pet psychic to entertain the entire family while looking for a new dog, cat, puppy or kitten.”

Come join us and meet celebrity namesakes Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Natalie Morales!Clear the Shelters attendees will also meet plenty of other Today’s Show and NBC Bay Area big names at Berkeley Humane’s upcoming event, includingErica Hill, Willie Geist, Raj Mathai, and Jessica Aguirre, just to name a few.

“Attendees can even take them home after a short interview,” said Jeffrey. “They are all available for same-day adoption, so adopters can be home snuggling with their new love on Saturday night.”

To celebrate their partnership with NBC, Berkeley Humane has named their animals after the network’s known personalities. Jeffrey shares, “we hope our attendees will have as much fun meeting our adoptable dogs and cats as meeting the hosts they’re named after.”

Diehard NBCfans will likely meet the original, human versions of Sam Brock, Laura Garcia Cannon, and Diane Dwyer at Berkeley Humane’s Clear the Shelters event as well!
