International Exposure for Local Students (SHSID)

SHS is a pure state high school, founded in 1865 and is the top high school in Shanghai. 100% of the Senior III students enter universities. Founded in 1993, SHSID is a wing of the SHS. The two divisions share the same campus, which is the largest high school campus in Shanghai.

Now, 1200 local students from Senior I - III are studying at SHS and 2450 international students from Grade 1 - 12 are studying at SHSID. This presentation will explain how the vision of the school has led to many changes that were firsts in China related to the desire to internationalize a state school.

The history of the school is that many of our students, who are among the best in Shanghai, will become future leaders in Shanghai and in many fields, as well as the national level. As China plays more of a role in world affairs, it is important for these students to have exposure to international ideas, cultures and languages. In addition, the school is well positioned to introduce China, its language, culture, history and its potential to foreign students. This is why SHS is a unique model of international education in China.

I have been teaching at SHS for 30 years. I have 13 years' national education experience and 17 years' international education experience.

Among the SHS alumni, there are 53 academicians of the ChineseAcademy of Sciences and the ChineseAcademy of Engineering, 31 generals and more than 100 provincial and ministry leaders.

The present international division has 2450 international students. They will be future leader of the world, who will have a strong faith to China, the Chinese language, the Chinese philosophy, and the Chinese culture.
