The role of Peer Community Worker is a most exciting one, giving the opportunity to help engage the local community and develop the future of activities and services offered through the Big Lottery funded High Hopes for Halli-Well Being Project based in St Paul’s Community Centre.

Most importantly, we are not looking for any particular qualifications. The most important quality needed is the ability to engage other residents. We are therefore looking for two people from Halliwell and Crompton who have positive links with other residents and are confident of being able to engage and enthuse their peers.

You will be supported bythe vicar and, from July, the Community Development Worker (CDW) and will receive training and ongoing support to fulfil your role.

Role description:

Job Title:Peer Community Worker

Salary:£10 an hour for 7 hours per week.

Employment:Employment will be on a fixed term, self-employed contract for 104 weeks. The undertaking of these hours are flexible and will be agreed to suit both your needs and those of the project.

The contracting body is The West Bolton Team.

Management:The Peer Community Workerwill be directly responsible to a nominated member of the Project Steering Group and, from July 2018, the CDW.

Job Role:

To work with the Project Steering Group and, when appointed, the Community Development Worker to fulfil the project goals as set out in the business plan. In particular to:

  • Promote the development of the project and engage with potential user groups and local people.
  • Engage with HAFWAY, HBS and other groups such as Ambition for Ageing and Youth Forum to consider the development of intergenerational projects.
  • Work with partner organisations to prepare flyers promoting the centre,itslaunch event and future events and in distribution across the community.
  • Support the organisation of a Community (Launch)Dayin Spring/Summer 2018to share the plans for a building and bring together residents to celebrate the refurbished community centre in the neighbourhood.
  • Support the delivery of a diverse programme of activities for local people.
  • Help develop opportunities for local people to have their voice heard by local decision makers and get involved as volunteers and participants.
  • Participate in training and attend meetings when required.
  • Keep and share recordings of work.
  • Support the carrying out of evaluations.

Person Specification:

For this job we are looking for:

  • A peer of the target group –16+ and live, work or worshipin either Halliwell or Crompton.
  • Good group work skills.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and attend meetings as required.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake training and apply skills learnt.
  • Excitement about meeting the needs of the local community.
  • Commitment to making servicesand activities equally accessible and appropriate to the diverse needs of people in the area.
  • Tact and good judgment in all dealings with the public and colleagues.
