“Marin Sorescu” International Conference
Ist edition, February 23-25, 2007
Starting this year (2007), the Faculty of Letters of the University of Craiova organizes an international conference dedicated to Marin Sorescu. The conference will be held each year and will be integrated in the cultural manifestation “Marin Sorescu’s Days” in Craiova which includes theatre performances, book releases, painting exhibitions and a visit to the memorial house “Marin Sorescu” in Bulzesti.
There shall be two sections of the conference: Exegesis and Traductology.
The Exegesis section proposes two approaches, with changeable themes from one year to another: a contextualizing and theoretical theme (relevant for the whole post-war Romanian literature, Marin Sorescu being one of the most representative writers) and an analytical approach (regarding monographs), comprising certain dimensions of Marin Sorescu’s writings.
For the first edition, the theoretical theme is the axiological paradox as foundation for 1960’s literature: Esthetic value and subversiveness.
For the analytical approaches, we propose the following theme: Marin Sorescu and the disruption of literary canons.
The Traductology section will be held on the same theme each year, generally formulated Translation and Interpretation of Marin Sorescu’s works, pursuing the goal of identifying specific themes to be analysed, depending on the titles and abstracts of the announced papers.
We would suggest that each presentation should not be longer than 30 minutes.
In view of publishing the papers and the debates in a volume, we kindly ask the participants to send the final version of the paper (MS Word, font size 12, 15 A4 pages maximum) by March 31, 2007 to the following e/mail address: ..
Confirmations of participation, as well as titles and abstracts of the papers (30-50 words), should be sent to the organizers by February 10, 2007.
The Town Hall of Craiova finances the project; therefore, the organizers will cover all expenses (transportation, accommodation and participation free).
