Lecture 9

Ex 19:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

Ex 20:18-19 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

Who does God pay the most attention to and care about the most? Those that truly are obeying Him and who are staying in a close relationship with Him.

The first 4 commandments are ‘God-ward’ and the last 6 are ‘man-ward’.

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honour thy father and thy mother:

6. Thou shalt not kill.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8. Thou shalt not steal.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness

10.Thou shalt not covet

(be familiar with these; you don’t need to know the numbers except if talked about below)

Are we NT Christians suppose to keep the 10 commandments? No. We can (and should) keep all but the 5th commandment.

All but this 5th commandment are supported positively in the NT.

The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) group teaches that Sabbath keeping began with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and thus was designed for all of mankind. This is in error because the sabbath was not given to man until Israel was in the wilderness (Ne 9:13-14). Also, it was given to Israel alone and not to mankind in general, and it is a special covenant sign for Israel.

Is Sunday the Christian Sabbath? No. The Sabbath is always the 7th day of the week. Christians are to dedicate the 1st day of the week to the Lord, but not in the same sense as the 7th day for the Jews.

The first commandment with promise is the 5th: ‘honour thy father and thy mother’.

There are Bible verses etched in stone all over theFederalBuildings and Monuments

Israel was to employ the death penalty for: murder; smiting a parent; stealing or selling a slave; cursing one’s parents; causing an abortion; not protecting people from an animal of yours that has been known to be mean and the animal kills someone.

If a man sleeps with a single gal, he is suppose to marry her. But, her father could say no to this and then the young man is to pay him a dowry;

Beastiality, and all the other bizarre sexual perversions (including homosexuality), in my opinion, should be eliminated from society.

The Promised Land boundaries: The Red sea was the boundary eastward, and the sea of the Philistines, or the Mediterranean sea, was the boundary westward: the desert of Shur or Arabia, towards Egypt, was the boundary southward, and the river Euphrates was the boundary northward.

Ex 24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

Lecture 10

Every piece of furniture in the Tabernacle pictures Christ :

Ark – mediator

Altar of incense – intercessor

Golden candlestick – light of the world

Table of shewbread – bread of life

Laver – cleansing

Brazen altar – sacrifice

Veil – His flesh

Holy of Holies – Coming into the presence of God

Ex 28:1 ….even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

Here is a scriptural clothing standard for the minister of God (at least a Levitical priest in the OT): coats, girdles, bonnets; they should look beautiful; no skin showing from the waist down to the knees. This was serious business with God…if they didn’t do this right, He would kill them.

Applied to today: cover your body well with nice clothing; the man of God needs to set the standard for holiness;

The two daily sacrificial lambs were generally termed the morning and evening daily sacrifices, and were offered from the time of their settlement in the promised land to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans.

Ex. 31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

The famed 10 Commandments. God was very concerned with the preservation of His Word ! Such so that He even wrote it on tables of stone.

Ex 31:1+ And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Aaron, obviously, was a very weak leader; that is why it had to be Moses as the leader, and Aaron just as a spokesperson.

Their music became very worldly, sensuous, and inappropriate; so much so that Joshua thought that there was war in the camp. Godly music should not sound the least bit like ‘war’, ‘shouting’, ‘crying’…yet a lot of CCM (and its varieties) do!

Godly dancing is something that is almost an oxymoron…some try to adapt modern day dancing to a worship service…I just don’t see how it can fit…it doesn’t have any NT support whatsoever…and the OT is very unclear about it.

In that culture, even among the depraved heathen, any form of nakedness was very shameful.

Ex. 33:11 And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.

No man can see God’s true face and live.

I believe that this ‘face to face’ communication involved a closeness and realness; God was right there in front of Him speaking to Him, but Moses would not be allowed to see God’s face.

What did Moses see? God’s back parts.

Ex. 34:28 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Moses had more than just a ‘glowing suntan’; his face emitted light…enough so that the people readily noticed it and that he had to cover it up with a non-sheer veil. Moses was like this till the day he died.

Lecture 11

There are five types of offerings mentioned here:

1. Burnt 2. Sin 3. Trespass 4. Meat 5. Peace

There are 3 ‘animal’ sacrifices, and 2 ‘non-animal’ sacrifices.

The burnt offering was a complete sacrifice. In all the other offerings, others (usually only the priests) were allowed to eat certain portions of the offered animal. However, in the burnt offering, nothing was to be eaten by man. It was all to be consumed on the altar as a gift to God. We need to look at our sacrifice to God in the same way.

Meal offerings were prepared and presented to God as a meal, symbolically presenting the best fruits of human living to God to be consumed or used as He desired

Peace offerings, in part, celebrated the restoration of a right and meaningful relationship with God.

The sin offering, also known as a guilt offering, was a bloody offering presented for unintentional or intentional sins for which there was no possible restitution. The covering (forgiveness) of sin was represented by the blood smeared on the horns of the altar of incense or burnt offering and poured out at the base of the altar.

The Tresspass offering was a bloody offering presented for unintentional or intentional sins of a lesser degree and for which the violator could make restitution.

The Heave or Wave offerings were an inseparable part of peace offerings. In such the right shoulder, considered the choicest part of the victim, was to be "heaved," and viewed as holy to the Lord, and the breast was to be "waved" and could be eaten by the offerer.

Lev. 10:1-2 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. 2And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

(Lev 10:8-11) God thought the drinking of alcohol to be a pretty serious sin…it brought about the death penalty! We shouldn’t take the ‘alcohol issue’ lightly.

From this passage, the abstaining from alcohol is directly associated with holiness;

Lecture 12

Why did they have these dietary laws? I believe that the critters that God told them to avoid were less healthy of animals (scavenger type).

Lev 11:3,9 Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

There are 116 verses dealing with this law of leprosy. Leprosy was a common and troublesome problem back then, but not today (today is aka “Hansen’s Disease”).

The scapegoat took the sins of the nation far away; the other goat was the required sin offering. Apparently, both were required in order to provide atonement for Aaron, his household, and the nation of Israel. This was done once per year on the Day of Atonement

Incest, Homosexuality, Beastiality, and the like are abomination to the Lord and will cause the nation that allows them to be practiced to be defiled and judged by God and have her inhabitants to rapidly leave to neighboring countries.

The pagans would cut their flesh in order to try and appease the gods (devils). Also, they would ‘tattoo’ their skin in order to honor these gods.

Here are some of the offenses that would warrant the death penalty: cursing a parent; adultery; sodomy; bestiality; practicing the occult; blaspheming the Lord; killing someone.

God was surely for Capital Punishment (death penalty) with His beloved nation of Israel.

Here are the 7 feasts for the nation of Israel to observe yearly:

Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Weeks, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles

The Jews economic system was based on the Jubilee Year (every 50th year); all debts were forgive and slaves allowed to go free; it was an economic ‘reset’ to the whole nation. It kept ‘things from getting out of control’. “Real value” of items and slaves was all based on how close to or far from the next (or last) Jubilee Year they were.

Lecture 13

Num 1:3,49 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies. Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi,….

Num 3:17 And these were the sons of Levi by their names; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.

The Nazarite vow involved avoiding anything of the grape vine, not cutting one’s hair, and avoiding anything that is dead.

The mixt multitude was tired of the manna and was lusting for flesh; they missed the great food they had in Egypt. God sent them quails (tons of them) to eat and they ate so much that they vomited them out their nostrils; and God sent a great plague amongst them for all of this.

Of the 12 spies (key leaders from each tribe), only Joshua and Caleb ‘believed God’ and said for Israel to take the land… the rest were afraid. Because of this lack of faith, and obedience, all men 20 years old and upward would eventually die in the 40 year wilderness wanderings and thus not be allowed to enter the Promised Land. Their children would be able to, however. And, also Joshua and Caleb.

Num 14:30 …Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

Korah led a rebellion against the leadership (namely, Moses). And, they were swallowed up in the Earth (250 men + Korah).

Lecture 14

God used this budding of Aaron’s rod as a very significant sign indeed that God’s chosen men were to be followed, respected, and obeyed.

The Levites were to live off of the tithes

Num 20:13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

A rock brought forth water for the nation of Israel. Moses was told to speak to the rock and instead, he smote the rock, twice! This rock was at least representative of Jesus; but, may have actually been Jesus Christ! Because of this, both Moses and Aaron would die prior to entering into the Promised Land.

Aaron, the High Priest, dies in mountHor. Eleazar takes over as High Priest.

The Jews complained against God again, and God sent firey serpents to bite them. If any were bitten, they were to look to the bronze serpent that Moses had fashioned and set on a pole; in doing so, they would be healed. This is typology for Jesus Christ taking on the curse of sin for us and dying on a cross; we need to look to Him and we will be healed from the curse of sin.

What was the error of Balaam? Apparently Balaam did indeed curse Israel in that he taught Balak to scheme to have the Moabitish women begin illicit relationships with the Israeli men and then to have these men eat things sacrificed unto their idols. Balaam did this for probably a very substantial reward.

Look at what the sin of Balaam caused here! It caused God to slay 24 thousand.

Joshua would take over in leading the People of Isreal, in the place of Moses.

Lecture 15

The greatest nation on Earth was Israel…now she is set aside; and it appears, at least for now, that America would be the greatest nation on Earth.

Deut 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

Explained: Three Persons……One God……The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. And each one is indeed God individually.

When enterring the Promised Land, Israel was told to utterly destroy the nations there and to not make any covenants with them. Well, Israel did not totally follow this command and as a result suffered greatly for it (wars, strife).

An Israelite was suppose to have their loved one killed if they tried to entice them to leave their belief system for another.

God is totally against spiritism, mysticism, the occult, psychics, astrology, witches, contact with the dead, and other similar abominations. Don’t ever try and ‘Christianize’ any of these…but, yet, Christians do.

Deut 18:15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of that prophecy of the Prophet.

Lecture 16

Under what circumstances should an military person be allowed to avoid going to war? Well, for Israel, it was allowed for having just built a new house, or for planting a new vineyard, or has just been married…. and even for anyone that happens to be fearful about war.

A son who was rebellious and out of control could be brought before the elders and stoned.

OT law required the Jews not to use interest (usury) to a fellow Jew. The Jews were allowed to use usury on ‘strangers’.

Deut 24:1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement,

My belief is that this uncleanness refers to her somewhat new husband finding out something about her that had happened prior to marriage and was hidden from him: i.e. fornication.

All the husband had to do back then to officially divorce his wife was to write a statement down concerning this and put it in her hand and send her out of his house..

Deut 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

At age 120 Moses would die, not having ever stepped foot on the Promised Land…but he could at least view it from atop Mt.Pisgah.

God Himself buried Moses. Why? It surely was important to God to have Moses buried; it was proper; it was scriptural. Burial is supported by God, but ‘cremation’ is only supported by Paganism….
