The cloud-based CRM suite Zoho One is celebrating its premiere at HANNOVER MESSE 2018. Boasting more than 40 applications and a range of complementary mobile apps, this all-in-one solution is specially designed to cover all business administration needs.
There are many different theories on gaining new customers and keeping or winning back “old” ones. Attracting new customers is said to be easier than keeping existing ones, while winning back a previous customer is reportedly simpler than gaining a completely new one. Whatever the case, the truth is that businesses lose up to 30 percent of their customer base year on year. Over recent decades, an entire segment has emerged that is set on optimizing the relationship between businesses and their customers. Customer Relationship Management or “CRM”, as it is known, involves focusing on the customer and adopting a systematic approach to customer relations – and the associated documentation and administrative tasks are key to enhancing relationship marketing. The pioneering California-based company Zoho Corporation is at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE to unveil its all-in-one, cloud-based business software solution, Zoho One.
This innovative software suite for running an entire business comes with more than 40 integrated web applications, which are all stored in a centralized account and can mostly be used on smartphones as well. Zoho One is primarily geared toward boosting sales figures and takes care of marketing, accounting and customer and employee communication. As an added bonus, the Single Sign-On mechanism makes Zoho One something of a “turnkey operating system” for businesses.

So much more than wine and berets!
The Spanish part of the Basque Country is at HANNOVER MESSE 2018 with its very own stand to showcase to an international audience the region’s tremendous assets and its proven advanced production strategy.
According to the Financial Times, the Basque Country is one of Europe’s best networked regions. It is also one of Spain’s most heavily industrialized areas and, thanks to its quality standards, among Europe’s key players. This is something it can capitalize on, which is why the region – which also refers to itself as a “big little country” – is at HANNOVER MESSE 2018 with its very own stand. The advanced production strategy initiated by the Basque government and shared by the companies, technology centers, universities and other stakeholders involved in transforming the Basque industrial network is being showcased to international visitors under the BASQUE INDUSTRY 4.0 banner.
The stand area is divided into several themed zones. One zone is devoted to systems developed by Basque technology centers. It features AR systems and manufacturing technologies for titanium components in the aviation industry and solutions for remote handling of robots. BIND 4.0, the first international fast-track program for startups that seeks out prestigious customers in Industry 4.0, has its own area where visitors can find out more about the program. This is all enhanced by presentations on various Industry 4.0 topics – not forgetting demonstrations of the unique folklore and samples of the fantastic gastronomy from the Basque region.

It’s a drive system – but not as we know it!
At HANNOVER MESSE 2018, WITTENSTEIN is showcasing a host of new stars orbiting its Galaxie drive system, which won the HERMES AWARD when it was launched at the event three years ago.
HANNOVER MESSE: the final frontier. Captain’s log, stardate 2018. These are the voyages of WITTENSTEN SE, with a crew of 2,000 on board. Its continuing mission for 69 years: To boldly develop its own innovative galaxy, seek out new drive systems and new versions of gearboxes. Far from mission control in Igersheim, WITTENSTEIN SE is showcasing solutions previously unknown to mankind... So, the Star Trek pastiche might seem a little far-fetched, but it’s actually not that distant from reality. After all, WITTENSTEIN SE is clearly intent on boldly pushing back boundaries at this year’s HANOVER MESSE with its slogan “Make the impossible possible”. And we are talking about a galaxy and stars, even if Galaxie is in fact the name of a drive system and the stars are product highlights rather than celestial bodies. On show is a new size for shafts that have to be exceptionally compact and precise at low to medium torque, an ultra-slim design and a gearbox version with or without hypoid gearhead for space-saving integration into machinery. Further highlights include a range of practical trade fair display models that clearly demonstrate the technological advances, application and advantages of the Galaxie drive series in machine tools, milling heads and robotic welding guns.
This year’s WITTENSTEIN showcase is the logical progression from the immensely successful launch of the Galaxie drive system at HANNOVER MESSE 2015, where it won the HERMES AWARD. Since then, this innovative system has proved itself to be “superior on principle” in numerous industrial applications and has frequently achieved the impossible. So much so that it has been classified as an entirely new category of gearbox, which is soon to be included in one of the standard reference works for machine tool engineering. The Galaxie is even being heralded as a “technological milestone” in publications and presentations by members of industry and associations such as the Research Association for Power Transmission Engineering (FVA) and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA).

Everything but the bucket and spade!
Hamburg-based startup Cybus is at HANNOVER MESSE 2018 to showcase its preconfigured sandbox equipped with extensive licenses as a plug & play gateway to the Industrial Internet of Things.
If the Internet of Things tends to focus more on the needs of consumers then it’s fair to say the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) puts the requirements of industry center stage. Like most cutting-edge IT solutions, the main aim of the IIoT is to boost operational efficiency. To help companies achieve this as smoothly as possible, Hamburg-based startup Cybus has developed a new sandbox that it’s unveiling at HANNOVER MESSE 2018. Whether it’s for building an initial, robust technical prototype or networking existing machine data with a digital industrial application, the Cybus Sandbox is designed to support transparent management processes for all data, tools and users – and thus forge the missing link between production and the world of digital services.
The Cybus Sandbox is based on the company’s own Connectware software and supports the simple collection, evaluation and processing of machine data using all manner of digital applications. What’s more, it is compatible with all common industrial protocols, such as OPC-UA, Modbus, BACnet, ISO on TCP, CAN-Bus, MQTT, REST and many more besides. Users can therefore expect nothing less than a fully functional IIoT platform for both developers and users in the form of an industrial PC with a preconfigured Cybus Connectware instance. Moreover, the Cybus Sandbox comes complete with an introductory three-month full license – and the Cybus support team is close at hand to assist with customizing the system, meeting any special requirements and extending the license.

Two new bus connections for even better direct drives
At the HANNOVER MESSE 2018, halstrup-walcher presents the direct drives of the PSD product family with CANopen and IO-Link.
Getting companies fit for Industry 4.0 involves a lot of tweaking and adjustments! Nowadays, mechanical engineers are expected to offer highly flexible solutions with minimal changeover times for automatically creating new formats at speed. The positioning systems required to achieve this need to be both reliable and tailored precisely to fit the application. State-of-the-art positioning systems use integrated condition monitoring to ensure optimum machine availability. These requirements led halstrup-walcher GmbH to equip its PSD direct drives with a stepping motor and all the relevant subsystems such as control, bus interface and incremental or absolute measuring system. These compact drives achieve speeds of up to 1,500 RPM, which makes them the perfect choice wherever machine axes need frequent adjustment to handle small batches.
At HANNOVER MESSE 2018, halstrup-walcher presents the direct drives of the PSD product family with CANopen and IO-Link. Cleaner fuel seems to be creeping up on us!
At HANNOVER MESSE 2018, ITM Powers PLC is unveiling HGas – a fully integrated, autonomous electrolysis platform based on polymer electrolyte membrane technology.
Which came first? The car or the fuel? While the hype around cars based on fuel cell systems seems to go on and on, in reality, we’re getting fed up with waiting for anything close to an adequate network of hydrogen filling stations. Without them, how can this supposed “other alternative” stand any chance of demonstrating its benefits and potential performance in everyday use? But things now finally seem to be moving in the right direction. Without anyone really noticing, 24 new public hydrogen filling stations sprang up around Germany during 2017, which practically doubled their number. With its new total of 45 filling stations, Germany’s hydrogen fuel network is now only outranked by Japan. If everything goes according to plan, by 2019 the number should exceed 100, linked with a proportionate increase in demand for this fuel. The recent announcement that ITM Power is joining forces with Shell’s base in the Rhineland to construct the world’s largest PEM hydrogen electrolysis plant fits right in with this trend.
At the heart of the project lies the HGas integrated technology platform that ITM Power is unveiling at HANNOVER MESSE 2018. “Decarbonizing hydrogen production in the chemical and refining industries worldwide is potentially a very large market. This pioneering project with Shell aims to demonstrate what can be achieved using our industrial-scale electrolyzers, which can also use low-cost renewable energy and help balance electricity grids,” says Dr. Graham Cooley, CEO of ITM Power. The groundbreaking “Refhyne” plant is already due to go live in 2020, which will make it the first large-scale industrial application of polymer electrolyte membrane technology. Powered by low-cost electricity from renewable sources, it could become a key technology for potentially achieving entirely CO2-free hydrogen production.

Labeling fit for the Industry 4.0 era

Making a real connection

Forever blowing bubbles
Burwinkel Kunststoffwerk GmbH is using a BOY injection molding machine at HANNOVER MESSE 2018 to produce the bubble blowers we all know and love from our childhood.
Visitors to the Burwinkel Kunststoffwerk GmbH stand at HANNOVER MESSE 2018 can look forward to taking a trip down memory lane. After all, who hasn’t experienced the sheer joy of creating bubbles by dipping a wand into a tube of soap solution and then blowing? The children’s favorite is being produced on a BOY25E injection molding machine at the Burwinkel stand in Hall 5 – an enduring success story that mirrors that of the toy itself.
No less than 25,000 machines in this series have been shipped since production launched in 1968 and, just like a Porsche 911, the BOY25E has been enhanced and optimized from generation to generation. The latest model boasts a clamping force of 250kN and an energy-efficient servo-drive. Despite the machine’s compact size, an easily accessible two-platen clamping system offers generous distances between the tie bars and platens to support a wide range of molds and removal devices.
