The George A. Wright Memorial Award
Because of his outstanding contributions as a citizen of Tift County, Georgia, a perpetual memorial for George A. Wright has been established which will be awarded to individuals, sixty years of age and older, who exemplify the qualities that George Wright exhibited. His many examples to us all include: his contribution as a community servant and civic leader; his Christian witness as a church man; his service as a dedicated patriotic American; his loving devotion to his family; and his career as an outstanding businessman.
We all remember the positive influence he had on Tiftareans and how he reached out and touched the lives of thousands of others. In so many ways, he always made people feel glad that “George” had come their way. All of these qualities led the people of TiftCounty to honor George A. Wright, posthumously, with the “Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year” award in 1981.
That is why those who knew him best and loved him most have established the George A. Wright Memorial Award. And, that is why you are now being urged to nominate those Tift Countians who live among us each day and most closely exemplify and perpetuate all that was good and noble about the life and times of George A. Wright.
We all know of other senior Tiftareans whose lives have influenced us similarly and who have, therefore, had a positive impact upon us and otherwise inspired us to be and do better. While we know these folks are obviously not seeking recognition or reward, all of us would like to share the good news that they are here, that they are real, and that, therefore, we have ample reason to recognize and accentuate those qualities, which are positive in these individuals.
Do yourself and our community a favor by making your nomination(s) today, or any time before Friday, April 7, 2017. The few simple steps you are asked to follow are given in the attached form.
