Module selection Guidance for visiting students
You will find in this document a summary of the pathways that we are offering to CCC visiting students in academic year 2012-2013.
Pathways:
We have chosen the curricula for these pathways carefully to help you gain the most from your year with us. For each pathway we have put together a portfolio of modules tailored to the specific requirements of each discipline, taking account of compulsory modules but adding a range of suitable modules from our range of electives. Within this overall framework our aim is to ensure adequate internal consistency of the programme that you will follow, while complementing coverage of essential topics and subjects with ample opportunity for choice. Each pathway leads to one or more Masters programmes. You should choose the pathway that fits your plan for Masters study.
Available Pathways for year 2012 -2013
-Accounting and Finance Pathway
-International Banking and Financial Studies Pathway
-Management Sciences Pathway
-Economics Pathway
-Education Studies Pathway
-Sociology and Social Policy Pathway
-Applied English Language Studies (for International students) Pathway
Curriculum Innovation modules:
We will also offer you the opportunity to apply for further variation through our Curriculum Innovation modules, The objective of the modules is to open up study opportunities for you if you so wish, whilst not restricting those who want to study their chosen discipline in depth. We recognise that some students want depth of study in their discipline and they will continue to be able to make that choice.
It should also be noted that the modules will be treated as any other module in a programme, so you still need to pass a Curriculum Innovation module should you chose to take one. It will be shown on your final transcript and count towards the final classification.
English Language support Class:
You will have access to excellent English language support in form of 20 hours of taught sessions spread out over two semesters. These sessions are run in small classes each Wednesday afternoon. A diagnostic language assessment before arrival at Southampton will ensure that the best possible programme oflanguage support will be offered based on your individual languagelevel.
Progression to Masters Programmes:
The compulsory modules in each pathway are prerequisites for Masters programmes. Students achieving 60% overall or abovein their chosen pathways and wishing to continue with their studies at Southampton will generally be offered conditional places on Masters courses, which will be confirmed on successful graduation in China. No additional English languages results are required.
Students who do not meet the above criteria may still be free to apply to any of the programmes.Acceptance is subject to the discretion of the Academic Unit.
It should also be noted that you are still required to apply for MSc programmes through the online application system in order to have your application considered. This normally happens after the release of your first semester exam marks.
