Teaching and learning methods

In the Law for a New Business course the learning approach is based on interactive lectures, case studies and discussion. Attendance on each lesson is highly recommended and it is each student’s responsibility to get the information and the material given on the lessons.

Learning outcomes

The student will understand the position of a domesticlegal orderin the global context and understand the basic legal concepts and logical rules necessary for the independent use of sources of law. The student will have elementary knowledge on the Finnish contracts law as well as the knowledge on the Finnish corporate law needed for establishing a company. He/she will have legal knowledge necessary for conducting basic business procedures and is well prepared to act as a party of an employment relationship.

Course contents

The course gives an insight to the international legal environment and covers the basics of

  • Sources of the Finnish law
  • Legal personality; legal entities, legal capacity, contractual capacity
  • Contracts; formation of contracts, invalidity and adjustment of contracts
  • Corporate law; forms of enterprise
  • Sale of goods; business trade, consumer trade
  • Competition law; competition restrictions, unfair competition
  • Labor law; collective agreements, employment contracts, termination of employment relationship

Examon 17th of March during the class hours. No enrolment is needed.

Re-exam: To be announced at a later date. Remember to enroll on time. Note that the enrolment period ends a few weeks before the exam date.
