BSc. FOOD SCIENCE AND NUTRITION

This course produces well trained graduates in all aspects of Food Science and Technology as well as Nutrition Science. It covers food processing, nutritional survey and surveillance, intervention programs, food and nutrition security. They have job opportunities in Food processing industries, Research organizations, NGO’s and academic institutions.

BSc. FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

This course produces well trained students skills in the various aspects of food processing, food preservation and food quality and safety as well as aspects of postharvest biology and technology of perishable food commodities. They have job opportunities in Food processing industries, Research organizations, NGO’s and academic institutions.

BSc. FOOD SERVICE AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

The programme is a multi disciplinary course that captures the broad base of skills appropriate to careers in the fast growing high income earning agribusiness and food industry with emphasis on retailing, through carefully balancing modules from the life sciences and management sciences. It is designed to provide graduates with sound business skills as well as a thorough understanding of the complexity of plant and animal tissues and how to apply the knowledge in production, handling processing and preservation of foods in the retail sector. It provides the scientific, technological and managerial skills needed for graduates entering managerial positions in hotels, restaurants, hospitals, prisons, cruise ships, schools, airlines and retail outlets such as supermarkets among others.

BSc. HORTICULTURE

Students in BSC Horticulture programme study basic sciences, Vegetable Production. Fruit Production Flower and Ornamental Plant Production. Marketing. Crop Protection. Animal Science. Technical Drawing and Survey, Agricultural Extension and Information Technology.

BSc. ENVIRONMENTAL HORTICULTURE AND LANDSCAPING TECHNOLOGY

This programme is designed to equip graduates with skills in the design. Construction and management of landscapes. Career opportunities include: Greenhouse production. Interior plantscaping, floral designer. Nursery production. Garden center. Landscape design. Management and Conservation. Golf Course superintendent. Arboretum. Urban environment planning.

BSc. AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT

The programme focuses on utilization control and management of natural and environmental resources together with agricultural production processes on the farm and how the activity synergies of the farm and natural resources contribute to rural development as an input.

BSc. AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ENTERPRENEURSHIP

The programme focuses on training graduates in the area of agro and agri-business value chain management covering agricultural input-sub-sector, commodity processing and marketing to food manufacturing industries, producer organizations and farmer groups, small and medium agribusiness and how the synergies from the various activities contribute to a dynamic agri-enterprise development in agricultural sector for example milk processing in rural dairy cooperatives, processing of molasses to gurus, oil processing, fish processing among others.

BSC. AGRIBUSINESS ECONOMICS AND FOOD INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT

The programme is a distinctive degree for students pursuing management careers in the food industry field, which includes acquiring of primary raw materials, all levels of food, fiber and bio-fuels processing, manufacturing and food value chain systems. Graduates from this program gain the skills needed in management, finance, marketing and strategy to successfully work in careers that require professionals to master the understanding of the uniqueness of this food value chain.

BSC IN ANIMAL HEALTH PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING

This program is designed to produce graduates with skills in livestock health, production of livestock products and processing them to the finished products. Career opportunities are in animal health industry, biotechnology and biomedical industries, livestock by-product processing industries and feed manufacturing companies.

BSC LAND RESOURCES PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

Land Resources Planning and Management programme is designed to impart the skills needed to undertake basic surveys essential for the planning and sustainable management of land resources. Career opportunities are in urban and regional planning, environmental management and impact assessments, sustainable rainfed and irrigated agriculture and, land resource surveys.

(a) Candidates seeking admission are required to fill application forms on payment of a non-refundable fee of Kshs.1, 500.00. The application form is available to Foreign Students on payment of a non-refundable fee of US$25.00.
