Volunteer Campaigner’s Role Description

Description of role:

Volunteer Campaigners support The Pituitary Foundation’s campaign work and help us to fulfil our goals to influence policy and key decision makers and improve general public awareness. All our Volunteer Campaigners must fill in an application form, and understand and sign the policies and procedures of The Foundation. Campaigners also need to have read and understood the Volunteer Campaigner’s Guidebook and use this document regularly to help them carry out their duties.

Possible tasks:

  • Spreading awareness locally through distributing leaflets and posters to community centres, GP surgeries, and ensuring that posters are present in your local pituitary clinics.
  • Writing letters and emails to people with influence such as your local councillor or politician.
  • Holding awareness stands or awareness events in your local area.
  • Getting involved in any current Pituitary Foundation campaigns and helping us to publicise these campaigns via social media.
  • Meeting with your local politician or councillor.

Time commitment:

We know many of you lead busy lives so we have developed this role so it is flexible and will appeal to those who might have as little as 2 hours a month to give. The role can also suit those with more time as you can choose how many campaign activities you get involved with.

Skills required:

  • Be organised.
  • Be motivated to bring about change.
  • Have good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • An understanding that campaigning takes patience and persistence.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Ideally comfortable with using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter (or happy to learn).
  • Can work independently.
  • Understand the mission, goals, history and services of The Pituitary Foundation.
  • Your campaign messages should either support our current campaigns or be in agreement with The Foundation’s policy statements.

What help will The Foundation provide?

  • The provision of this Volunteer Campaigner’s Guidebook and other documentation which will contain a wealth of information and resources to support you in your role.
  • Support from a designated member of staff.
  • Regular e-mail updates and volunteer e-bulletins.
  • Ideas for campaign themes.
  • Copies of The Foundation’s pituitary information leaflets and posters. (We can also provide other materials such as balloons or t-shirts for awareness events).
  • A copy of Volunteer News posted to you three times a year.
  • Free membership subscription to The Foundation throughout tenure as active volunteer.
