Dingman-Delaware Middle School – MR. JAMES MITCHELL

·  The DDMS Theatrical team led by coach, Karen Wagenhoffer has progressed on to the Worlds' Competition in Iowa. They began their journey by presenting their solution to the problem "Furs, Fins, Feathers & Friends" at the Regional Competition held March 12th at Pocono Mtn. West HS. The team's problem was to create and present a humorous performance depicting problem solving from the perspective of three different animals. The animals had to help a stranger, help each other, and solve a problem that threatens the survival of all animals. The team placed 2nd in that competition and progressed on to the state competition at Moon Area HS outside of Pittsburgh held April 2nd. The team bested their regional results by placing first in the state and will move on to World Competition taking place May 24 - 28th. Team members: Dominic Puglisi, Natalia Liszka, Angus Muttee, Sawyer Yoncak, Noelani Felix, Toby Shedd, Riley Ziolkowski. This would be the 3rd time in 3 years that Mrs. Wagenhoffer's team has competed at the Worlds level.

·  Over 300 athletes from around the region will compete in track, swimming and weight lifting events at the 10th annual Special Olympics in May. Unlike many organizations, however, the Area P Special Olympics—consisting of Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne, Pike, and Wyoming Counties—receives no funding from state and national affiliate programs. Because of this, Mr. John Staub of the Dingman-Delaware Middle School rallied a team of twenty-five Delaware Valley staff members, representing all seven schools, to raise funds by running in the 13.1 mile Scranton Half Marathon. "DV for Area P," as the group called themselves, raised both money and awareness for the Area P organization which relies totally on the benevolence of the local community.

·  It was with great pleasure Dingman-Delaware Middle School Staff were invited again to participate in, "Bring Your Child to Work Day," on Thursday, April 28, 2016. In the business of education, we are undoubtedly interested in helping students link the value of their education to the world of work. Most people, including the children of educators, don't realize what it takes and what it's like to be staff in a school setting. DDMS hosted eighteen guests, who ranged in age from six to sixteen years. Our staff was asked to think about how they could most successfully integrate their child into our environment. Our young guests were treated to a special appearance on DDTV, a pizza luncheon, juice boxes, a dessert treat, a goodie bag, photograph opportunities throughout the day, as well as what each individual classroom had planned. It was a really great, educational day for all!

·  Reading Olympics is a chance for readers to flex their competitive muscle. The Reading Olympics competition is the culmination of the program that has teams of students reading books from a prepared list for several months prior to the final event. Each team consists of 8 to 14 students who agree to read from groups of 45 books appropriate for their age and reading level. The book lists are prepared the previous year by interested teachers and librarians. The competition washeld at Easton Area High School on April 28, 2016.The Dingman Delaware Middle School competed against 29 other middle schools from all over North Eastern Pennsylvania, placing 8th overall!
