Overall purpose of job:
Oversee the day-to-day operation of Daisy Chains and Poppy Fields nurseries in accordance with The Children’s Act, Health and Safety legislation, the Ofsted Inspection Schedule and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory guidance.
Encourage and support all areas of children’s development by meeting their individual needs and identifying opportunities for Early Help to work with appropriate agencies to ensure children are safeguarded.
Post holders will be expected to be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to their post and may be asked to perform other duties, which reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.

6. / Devise appropriate rotas to maintain ratios at all times across the settings.
Assist the Nursery Manager, and support the nursery teams, to implement all policies and procedures within the provision and maintain a safe, secure, friendly and clean environment making amendments where required.
Support the Nursery Assistants to provide stimulating and challenging experiences to enable children to learn and develop through planning for the seven areas of learning.
Oversee the planning and implementation of appropriate programmes of activities for the children attending the settings, in collaboration with the Nursery Assistants, to meet the areas of the EYFS.
Using relevant recording systemsmonitor and evaluate children’s progression providing evidence of progress and impact.
Oversees the record keeping and the professional practice of the Nursery Assistants to ensure consistency of quality through regular supervisions.
7. / Builds a portfolio of room and peer observations and feedback from the Nursery Assistants to identify strengths and development areas, ensuring consistency of quality of teaching in accordance with the requirements of the Ofsted inspection schedule.

11. / Complete administration tasks e.g. up-dating all records, dealing with correspondence, communicating with other agencies recording children’s attendance.
Liaise with meal providers to ensure meals are appropriate.
Organises events to share information with parents/carers.
Complete Early Help Assessments to identify where support from other agencies may be required.
Knowledge, skill and experience:
  • Level 3 Child Care qualification with the expectation to gain a level 4 Child Care qualification within 2 years of appointment to this role.
  • Experience of maintaining a safe, secure, friendly and clean environment, ensuring all Ofsted and quality assurance requirements are met.
  • Experience of working with procedures and protocols within a child care setting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records on key children.
  • Ability to sample and audit practitioners written records on children’s progression to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Experience of using systems to track children’s progression to identify gaps in learning for individual children and specific groups in accordance with the EYFS.
  • Appropriate knowledge and experience to ensure meal/snack times are healthy and a pleasant social experience taking into account any dietary requirements.
  • Excellent communication /interpersonal skills, both written and verbal with the ability to produce reports for other agencies.
  • Knowledge of Children Centre services available for children and families.
  • Ability to chair staff meetings.
  • Experience of providing evidence to meet the requirements of quality assurance schemes to maintain the quality of provision.
  • Knowledge and experience of handling and recording income.

Creativity and innovation:
  • Ability to identify innovative ways to engage parents/carers in their child’s learning both in the Centre and at home.
  • Ability to identify and develop creative and innovative ways of collating information from children, parents/carers, other professionals and any other stakeholders to ensure a high quality service and to enhance the quality of provision.
  • Develop healthy snack menus with children in line with current healthy lifestyle guidance.
  • Innovative approach to building positive relationships with parents/carers to support the sharing of information to meet the needs of all children.

Contacts and relationships:
  • Daily - Work with Nursery Manager and Nursery Assistants to ensure the efficient and effective day to day running of the nursery settings.
  • Daily - Communicate and support Children and Parents/Carers to communicate children’s progress, offering advice and support as appropriate and signposting to other agencies. Issues are generally not contentious but the outcome is often not straightforward.
  • Daily – Children who attend the nursery provisions to encourage and support all areas of children’s development in line with the EYFS from their starting points to transition to another provision.
  • Weekly – Other agencies and professionals, attending CIN and Early Help meetings and working in partnership to support children and families.
  • Weekly - Learners on placement to guide and support.

Decision making:
  • Make decisions on the day to day running of the nursery provisions.
  • Responds appropriately to children and parent /carer attempts to communicate their needs.
  • Responds to “on the spot” incidents and on a daily basis makes decisions ensuring a safe environment.
  • Makes decisions regarding safeguarding concerns, knowing when to discuss with line manager and identifying when further referrals should be made.
  • Make amendments to policies and procedures within the settings, in conjunction with the manager, to reflect changes in legislation and any changes within the Centres environments and resources.

Responsibility for resources:
  • Responsibility for recording and banking of fee income when received from parents/carers up to £1,000.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work demands:
  • Work routine subject to interruption by parents.
  • Activities of the settings are planned but subject to variation to meet the individual needs of the children.

Physical demands:
  • Working with children involves bending, sitting in awkward positions some lifting and moving of equipment. Occasional restraint of children is necessary.

Working conditions:
  • Normal office environment whilst indoors however there is an element (20%-25%) of outdoor activities in all but extreme conditions.

Work context:
  • Some risk as role can involve challenging behaviour from children and on occasion parents/carers when dealing with issues where feelings may be running high.
