Following a sell-out run this autumn, Paul Miller's production of Terence Rattigan’s sparkling 1936 comedy returns to the Orange Tree for just 31 performances in June 2016 followed by a UK tour in Autumn 2016 with English Touring Theatre to Exeter, Harrogate, Barnstable, Cheltenham, Doncaster, Oldham, Warwick, Poole and Huddersfield. The cast is to be announced. Nearly 3,000 tickets are available at £12 to under 30s on Monday to Thursday evenings during the Orange Tree run.
After a group of young men arrive at Professor Maingot’s French school for the summer to cram for the Diplomatic exam, their concentration is disrupted by beautiful visitor Diana Lake. Quelle surprise, they must learn another new language: girls.
At first, it seems pretty simple. Kit loves Diana and she loves him. And Bill. Oh, and darling Alan, of course. Then there’s Jack: she’s in love too. Meanwhile, Babe conceals his feelings…
Not so simple after all.
The return of French Without Tears follows Paul Miller's recently announced Spring 2016 season featuring his production The Philanderer, the London premiere of Chris Urch's The Rolling Stone, the world premiere of The Brink by Brad Birch and the first major revival of Robert Holman's German Skerries, which will also tour to Reading Rep, Stephen Joseph Theatre, Hull Truck Theatre and The Dukes, Lancaster.
As Artistic Director of the Orange Tree, Paul Miller has directed revivals of DH Lawrence’s The Widowing of Mrs Holroyd, Bernard Shaw’s Widowers’ Houses and Doris Lessing’s Each His Own Wilderness.
English Touring Theatre recently toured Simon Armitage’s The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead. In spring 2016 they will tour The Herbal Bed by Peter Whelan, directed by James Dacre in a co-production with Royal & Derngate and Rose Theatre Kingston.
