Traffic Appeals Committee:
I respectfully write to apply for reclassification to the status of “part-time faculty and staff” for the academic year 2000/2001. I file this appeal under the proper classification clause of the College of William \& Mary Motor Vehicle Parking and Traffic Rules and Regulations for academic year 2000/2001, which under subsection “Registration, Eligibility and Classification” paragraph one reads
“Should registrants and/or Parking Services disagree as to proper classification...[the registrant] shall immediately file an appeal with the Parking Committee.”
For the academic and fiscal year 2000/2001 I will receive stipend from the College of William and Mary and the department of physics under contract #LIST CONTRACT NUMBER, for duties in accordance with a teaching assistantship for the College of William \& Mary. As per my contract with the College, these duties do not entail work in excess of 1500 hours per fiscal year. At this expected level my payroll classification at the College is considered that of a ``Part-time employee''.
For the academic year 200/2001 I am scheduled to be assigned the position of laboratory instructor/lecturer[1] in the department of physics, with course assignment consistent with my past teaching experience for the years 1996-2000 which includes:
Physics 101L Instructor Physics 102D Instructor Physics 107D Instructor
Physics 176 Grader Physics 176L Instructor Physics 251 Instructor
Fulfillment of the responsibilities that accompany these teaching appointments require me to be present and available on the campus proper in either my office or laboratories to assist the undergraduate students enrolled in my courses. This availability is foremost during the normal hours of parking regulation enforcement, and extends to evenings and weekends.
Please grant this reclassification request as it will ensure that I can continue to fulfill the duties of my position and maintain the high standards of academic teaching excellence that the College of William and Mary strives to achieve.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. Norman
