Minutes from September 20, 2017 Community School Association (CSA) General Meeting
There were 17 people in attendance at tonight’s meeting held at Community School.
Welcome: President Kerrie DeFusco welcomed all members to the first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year. She introduced the new Principal Cheryl Vaughn.
Principal’s Report:
· Mrs. Vaughn is happy to be back at Community School where she was the Principal in 2000.
· The Open House is on September 27, 4:00pm-5:10pm. There will be 2 half hour presentations in each classroom.
· Mrs. Vaughn is working with the School Improvement Team. One suggestion from the team is a student led open house next year.
· Kristen Sukatos, new Director of the Cumberland School Volunteers, will come to the October meeting.
· BCI rules have changed. BCI check DOES need to be done this year, even if you have previously done a BCI check with the Cumberland School Dept. If you want to volunteer in any capacity at the school, a BCI check needs to be completed.

Upcoming Events
· The Soup & Cookies registration is extended to Monday, September 25. It is the biggest fundraiser of the year. The CSA is charged with raising $45,000 to fund field trips, enrichment activities, Dolphin folders, agendas etc. Delivery date of the Soup & Cookies will be determined later.
· Friday September 23 is the last day for Student Directory submissions.
· CLEAN is a parent led, CSA activity. As there was no Chairperson for this position, CLEAN may not be held in the fall. A parent has since volunteered to chair the program, and is currently looking into fitting a short course schedule this fall through Alphabest. Alphabest has an Enrichment division, which is separate from their after school program.
· September 29 is Outdoor Movie night, a free event for all Community Families.
· October 18 @ 7- 8 pm is the Next CSA meeting. Please attend! Parent support strengthens Community School!
· October 20, 2017is School Picture Day.
· Box tops will be collected through October 20th for the 1st submission this year. The second submission is on March 1, 2018. This fundraiser brings in around $2,000 a year.
· Book Fair will be November 30 and December 1
· Winter Festival is evening of Friday December 1
· Fourth Grade Play, April 7&8. Amy Dwyer is Chair of the play, which will be Peter Pan Jr. Contact Amy at if you would like to helpout with 4th grade play.

· The Community School Association (CSA) has a Facebook page. All parents can request to join the page.
· You can help the CSA raise frunds by using Amazon Smile (smile.amazon.com) to make your Amazon purchases. Go on smile.amazon.com and pick Community School Association as your charity and a portion of sales go to CSA. It doesn’t add to your cost on merchandise.
· Stop N Shop fundraiser. Please use the code 08867/UZZR so that Community School can earn funds to support educational programming.
