Newsletter June ‘15
Annual General Meeting, Sunday 28th June at 7pm
You will find this AGM the most enjoyable you’ve ever been to, if you don’t believe me ask the members who were there last year.
The boring bits will be cut to a maximum of half an hour, (we managed 10mins last year!). The meeting itself will be followed by a BBQ. Food, including sausages, burgers and salad will be provided and there will also be some orange juice and lemonade. All you have to bring is the family, partner etc. any meat or fish of your choice and any favourite tipple. If you want to contribute a pudding, that would be lovely. We shall need to know how many will be attending for catering purposes. . Please let me know ASAP. We ask for £2 per person, which will enter you in a draw
This will be held at The Langdon Visitor Centre, Lower Dunton Road, SS16 6EB
I shall be sending out the agenda, last year’s minutes and the reports for the past year during June so that you can read them at your leisure!! You will appreciate that this saves time at the meeting. If you have any problems that you feel should be mentioned and obviously anything else that you think needs airing in the AOB please let the secretary know by Thursday 11th June.
We shall use the self-contained, education room which opens onto the delightful garden, with a large pond, and is great for the BBQ if the weather is good.
There is a large car park and (for security reasons) the gate will be shut at 7pm so make sure you arrive in plenty of time.
KIT and SUBS
Sue Vine, is in charge of the club kit.
If you wish to purchase club kit, all very good quality and reasonably priced, please see Sue at club meetings or contact her on 07909 778695 or there will be a selection of club kit for sale at the AGM.

Members out and about at races
Please let me know if you have run in any race and what it was like. Route, marshalling etc in fact any information that could be useful to pass on to other members
**Monday 4th May Nick and Judy travelled to Tiptree to take part in an 11.5 trail run. These trail walk/runs are great fun, can be run or walked with written directions and usually a choice of two distances. Walkers/runners can start as soon as they get their instructions and make their own way through beautiful Essex countryside. Start/finish usually at a pub!!!
**Sunday 10th May Phoenix Striders spread themselves around the county!! 8 members tackled the ‘Walk for Life’ organised by and supporting Farleigh Hospice. This is a great walk (run if you want to) along the canal from either Heybridge Basin or Paper Mill Lock to Chelmsford. Bill and Amanda P, Jim, Jan O’N and her daughter, Nick and Judy tried the 14mile one (excellent for coffee and cakes at the halfway point, Paper Mill Lock!!). Marian and Bob B with members of their family plumped for the 7mile distance. Beautiful weather in glorious countryside. Well done all.
**Sunday 10th May 3 more members travelled to Rochford to take part in the first 10K. Danielle H was first PS crossing the line in 51mins 33secs. She was followed immediately by Robert V 51:34 then Fae 67:08. Well done all. The winner 37:37 last runner 87:09.
**Sunday 10th May Yet more members Debbie S, Caroline H and Janet S ran the beautiful ‘Bluebell 5’ (miles). The winner finished in 29mins 13secs with the last, timed, runner crossing the line in 67:41, 25 runners came in after the ‘cut off time’ so were not given an official time. Debbie S was first PS in 45:23, she was followed by Caroline H 51:52 and Janet S 63:12. Well done girls.
**Wed 13th May Second ‘Crown to Crown’.171 runners with Crispian coming in first in 16mins 57secs. Stuart W was first PS in 23:09, he was followed by Chris F 24:08, Lynsey G 27:38, Joy 29:05, Maria G 29:16, Adele 33:35 and Sue B 36:10. Good running guys. Last to cross the line 44:09.
**Sunday 17th May Six members travelled to Great Baddow for the popular 10 mile race. In beautiful weather the first crossed the line in 53mins 35secs. Debbie S was first PS coming in at 1:26:41, she was followed by Eddie 1:28:00, Nicola M 1:36:52, Thelma 1:40:27, Nicola H 1:46:23 and Rhys 1:52:43. Well done folks; last crossed the line at 2:19:33.
**Tuesday 19th May Brilliant turn out for the first ‘Summer Series’ of 2015 considering the torrential rain between five and half past and again at sevenish when it was so dark runners were driving in with their lights on!! We were thinking in terms of 50 if we were lucky, but an incredible 87 ran the 5K in sunshine!! With a slightly different start to the 5.25K course Crispian set a new course record at 18mins 27secs and the new course record for the ladies was set by Hayley Pegg in 24mins exactly. Robert V was first PS home in 22:30, he was followed by Andrew W 25:24, Danielle H 26:39, Ruth 27:39, Eddie 28:05, Dave 28:26, Simon J 29:04, Sarah M 29:06, Steve H 29:18, Steve B 29:20, Debbie S 29:23, Mark C 30:00, Roma 30:02, Nicola M 31:27, Marie G 31:33, Nicola H 31:57, Natalie 32:27, Chris C 32:59, Ricky 35:07, Sue V 35:12, Fae 35:27, Pip and Sue B 38:56 and Nicola F 40:29. It’s good to see so many PS members tackling this great little 2 lap course. Last runner 44:31. There were 6 people who completed one lap.
Many thanks to all the people who gave up their time and/or evening run to make this possible. Tony D, Peggie and husband Steve, Dave and Lorraine S, Gwyn, Marion B, Beryl, Amanda C, Jim, Nick and Judy, also to friends of the club Betty, Terry F and Sharon G. A special ‘Thank You’ to Chris F who turns up time after time to man the computer and get the results onto the website almost immediately. Very few clubs are as quick with their results, we’re lucky to have him.
