This role sits in the Fundraising team within Oxfam New Zealand’s (ONZ) Engagement Directorate. The Engagement Directorate’s role is to engage, educate and publicise the work of Oxfam within New Zealand so as to create more supporters who do more, give more and stay longer.

The Fundraising team has the primary responsibility for supporter recruitment, retention and care. The team includes individual giving activities including regular giving development, telefundraising, appeals, unwrapped, major giving, bequests, trust and community fundraising.

JOB PURPOSE

Be responsible for the achievement of individual giving targets (income and retention) that support the expansion of Oxfam’s supporter base and public fundraising,through the effective management of one off appeal donations, virtual gifts, one-off donations to emergencies and regular giving undertaken primarily through Direct Mail and eDM.

PRIMARY Responsibilities

Appealsstrategy and coordination

  • Be responsible for planning and implementingappealsthroughout the year, including Oxfam Unwrapped, ensuring close linkages with Oxfam Australia’s appeals programme.
  • Analyse supporter data to ensure the effective targeting of recipients for optimal financial return.
  • Develop and oversee the production schedule for appeals, including managing each stages of its implementation.
  • Strategise and run queries and extract mailing lists from the database (Microsoft Dynamics CRM)
  • Explore and implement, with the support of the wider Engagement team, activities such as digital marketing, that will help maximise the ROI of each appeal.
  • Run post analysis to interpret, compare and initiate future appeals.

Emergency appeals

  • Oversee Oxfam’s fundraising activity in response to an emergency, including but not limited to:
  • Project management of eDMs and DM,
  • Advertising in print and online,
  • Copy writing and design,
  • Print production and mailing coordination.
  • Develop and implement the relevant sections of the emergency response strategy & procedures.
  • Ensure design templates are up to date and update quickly when a disaster hits with relevant content.
  • Coordinate and chair meetings around Oxfam’s response and document agreed actions.

Relationship management

  • Manageand maintain the working relationship with Oxfam Australia regarding their support in developing fundraising appeals.
  • Negotiate contracts and deals with external designers, fundraising agencies, printers, media agencies and publishers to ensure best price and performance and actively maintain effective ongoingworking relationships.
  • Represent ONZ within relevant networks, including NGO networks, Oxfam International groups, and at relevant forums within the not for profit and wider sector.
  • Be proactive in maintaining effective cross team communications and working relationships with key colleagues within the Engagement Directorate and in other directorates.
  • Support the Fundraising Manager in managing contact centre relationships.
  • Provide specialist fundraising/marketing advice and innovative inputs to the wider team.

Regular giving development

  • Develop highly engaging regular giving materials, including some design work, which are supporter centric and aid in supporting our retention objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Fundraising Manager, develop supporter journeys for regular givers and lead on the coordination of the development of those communications.

Supporter growth

  • Proactively seek opportunities for cross promoting and upselling to various audiences we have contact with.
  • In conjunction with the Fundraising Manager, develop and implement plans which generate new supporters, including appeal supporters, virtual givers and regular givers which provide the best possible ROI.
  • Lead on the delivery of effective advertising plans and ensuring the timely provision of marketing and promotional materials for fundraising products and other campaigns.

Product development and maintenance

  • Build on previous activity learnings for continuous improvement of the Oxfam Unwrapped product
  • Develop and implement the Unwrapped marketing plan
  • Lead the creative direction and overseeing the design and production of print and online materials
  • Develop ad-hoc fundraising copy with proofing support from the Communications team for a range of communications
  • In line with Oxfam International (OI) policies and guidelines, provide high level brand direction in relation to the production and use of marketing materials.

Supporter Care and Experience

  • Line manage the Supporter Relations Rep and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure supporters experience are highly professional, timely and informed.
  • Oversee the overall supporter experiences, ensuring the donation and thanking process for products managed by this team is highly engaging, maximises opportunities for increased support and repeat support
  • Brief other members of the Supporter Relations team on upcoming activity so they can be informed on supporter queries.
  • Develop and lead on supporter retention initiatives, including the coordination of retention communications such as the twice yearly magazine communications.

Financial Management

  • Prepare, monitor and report against income and expenditure budgets for each project/product managed, finding cost efficiencies where possible.
  • Review project plans & progress against agreed objectives/targets, including relevant strategic objectives.
  • Ensure the effective financial management of marketing activities, including income and expenditure budgeting and variance analysis.
  • Support Contact Centre financial management and reporting requirements.

Insight and Analysis

In consultation with the Engagement Director or Fundraising Manager:

  • Apply expert knowledge of the supporter database to profile, analyse, segment and assess data to identify opportunities to increase income and reduce attrition,
  • Contribute to income generation plans, providing research and analysis as required to drive evidence-based decision making,
  • Provide ad hoc insight and analysis support to the wider Engagement team as required.

Other

  • Recruit and manage interns who may be employed from time to time to undertake key projects or activities linked to the Individual Giving Executive’s work.
  • Undertake any other duties or projects that may be delegated by theFundraising Manager that are in keeping with the scope of the role.

COMPETENCIES

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • A strong background in fundraising and direct marketing, gained in the not for profit sector
  • Good knowledge of fundraising principles and best practice
  • Exceptional database skills and experiences, ideally with Dynamics CRM
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and execute marketing and fundraising campaigns that engage members of the public
  • Experience of DM/eDM approaches and tools,product design, development, management and distribution, and of developing relevant collateral materials for fundraising
  • Knowledge and experience of marketing research tools, data analysis and reporting
  • Experience of strategy & brand development
  • Experience of design software, preferably Indesign, and a good experience of using Microsoft Office applications and relational databases
  • Financial management and reporting experience
  • A tertiary level qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. marketing, fundraising, CFRE qualification, or commensurate experience
  • An interest in social justice and international development issues, particularly those Oxfam is engaged in
