BOARD OF EDUCATION
January 7, 2015
The Braxton County Board of Education met in a regular session at the Braxton County
Board of Education office on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 5:00 p. m. The following
members were present:
Kathy Parker, President (By Phone)
Dave Hoover, Vice President
Van Carr
Mike Chapman
Jimmy Huffman
The meeting was called to order by Dave Hoover at 5:00 p.m.
Dave Hoover offered a non-denominational prayer.
A delegation from the Band Boosters, Band students and Pep Band expressed concerns regarding the band.
Mike Chapman moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the consent agenda items (Minutes for December 18, 2014 meeting, payment of bills and budget transfers and supplements.)
Vote: Unanimous
Van Carr moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following
employment/reassignments – service:
1. Tammy Burroughs – Substitute Cook effective January 8, 2015
2. Bettie Moore – Cafeteria Manager Sutton Elementary effective retroactive January 5,
2015
3. Robin McQuain – Substitute Custodian effective January 8, 2015
4. Deanna Nottingham – Bus Operator (formerly Aaron Jenkins’ run) effective January 8,
2015
Vote: Unanimous
Jimmy Huffman moved to convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) to discuss
personnel and student matters. Mike Chapman seconded the motion. Vote: Unanimous
The board convened into executive session at 5:12 p.m.
Van Carr moved to reconvene into regular session. Jimmy Huffman seconded the motion. Vote: Unanimous
The board reconvened into regular session at 5:37 p.m. with no action taken.
Mike Chapman moved and Kathy Parker seconded to approve the following request to have
name added to the Substitute Bus Operator List:
Aaron Jenkins – effective retroactive January 6, 2015. Vote: Unanimous
Van Carr moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following requests to have names added to the Substitute Teacher List:
1. Rachel Butcher – effective January 8, 2015
2. Vickie Conant – effective January 8, 2015
3. Kaaren Connor – effective January 8, 2015
4. Terri Beverage – effective pending certification
Vote: Unanimous
Jimmy Huffman moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following names removed
from the Substitute Teacher List:
1. Christopher Baber – effective January 8, 2015
2. Randall Luzader – effective January 8, 2015
3. Josh Ramsey – effective January 8, 2015

Kathy Parker moved and Mike Chapman seconded to approve the following employee resignations – professional:
1. Lisa McMillion – 6th grade teacher at Little Birch Elementary – effective retroactive
January 5, 2015
2. Patricia McPherson – 3rd grade teacher at Little Birch Elementary – effective June 30,
2015
3. Stella Vartheyanyos – RESA 4 21st Century Project Math Tutor/STEM Instructor at
Flatwoods Elementary – effective January 8, 2015

Van Carr moved and Mike Chapman seconded to approve the following extracurricular

Jimmy Huffman moved and Kathy Parker seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments – professional:

2. Kathryn Michelle McCallister – 6th grade teacher at Little Birch Elementary – effective
January 8, 2015
3. David Brian Francisco – Electrical Technology Instructor at BCHS – effective January 19,
2015

Jimmy Huffman moved and Kathy Parker seconded to approve fundraisers for Davis
Elementary, Little Birch Elementary, BCMS and BCHS.
Vote: Unanimous
The Superintendent reported on the two-hour delay for the next day.
Kathy Parker moved and Van Carr seconded to adjourn. Vote: Unanimous
The meeting adjourned at 5:46 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Braxton County
Board of Education will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at Frametown
Elementary School at HC61, Box 61, Frametown, WV.
There will be a special meeting held on Tuesday January 13, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Braxton
County Board of Education office at 98 Carter Braxton Drive, Sutton, WV.
