·  Read and understand road signs
·  Search and enter information
·  Look for signs in the Driver’s Handbook
·  Recognize signs in the street
Materials: Worksheet, Driver’s Handbook, overhead projector
Learning Style: Visual, kinaesthetic
Time: 1-2 lessons / Method:
1.  Show Driver’s Handbook for your province. Solicit information from students.
e.g.: What is this? Do you have driver’s license from your native country? Did you have to write a test in your country to get your license? Do you have a Canadian driver’s license? Do you want a driver’s license? Why?
2.  Show examples of signs on the overhead projector. Solicit more information. Ask students to work in pairs and find the pages that “signs and symbols” are on.
e.g.: 20 – 27 in Manitoba Driver’s Handbook
3.  Now hand out worksheet. Ask pairs of students to use the handbook as a “manual” and write the page number under the picture on the worksheet. Then students are to colour the road signs using (red, green or yellow).
Follow Up: Go on a walk about: Students take the
worksheet and walk around the neighbourhood. Check
off signs as you go.
Debrief/Transfer: What did you learn today? What
future applications would this have? Discuss some of
the workplace applications. Why do you think it is
important to understand street signs whether or not you
drive a car?

Look for the Signs and check off the ones you see.
