Match Report
Today we found ourselves up against another powerful Mt Eliza side on their bottom oval. The build-up wasn’t strong pre-match and this showed in the first quarter as we looked half asleep. Structure went out the window and we looked terrible. It certainly was disappointing after a good week on the track. The positives were that Blake was on fire and Kynan was showing some dash in defence. The second quarter began with some ripping tackles from Josh and Kodi and this lifted the side immediately. Some great play from Kodi, with his 2nd and 3rd efforts, resulted in our first goal. Then we had a terrific chain of passes and Kyle slotted a blinder from 45m out. This is the type of footy we are capable of. We went back into our shells in the 3rd quarter, with the only highlight being a fantastic handball from Hammer to set up Rizza for a great goal. The last quarter we showed some ticker by toughing it out right to end, despite having only 18 players (and a few of them weren’t 100% either). Losing the Skipper early didn’t help either. Hope you are back soon mate.
Special Mentions:
Blake Jackson –Was solid all day in defence and took the game on. Kicked in very well. Ripper game mate!
Josh Waterman – Rucked all day on his own against a multitude of opponents. Tackled and competed hard and won plenty of footy around the ground. Good stuff Joshy!
Nath Morey – the bulldozer just loves these conditions. Won plenty of footy and made many intercepts. Nearly kicked a goal too…
Kynan Holroyd – Showed that he has been listening and learning and had a great game in the backline this week.
Joel Burns – found himself in the right position a few times and got some important handballs in.
And finally a big Congrats to Spyke Mepstead for playing his 100th game of junior football. Well done Spykey!
We take on Mt Eliza for the third week in a row next week, but at least we are back on home turf.
