Curated by Madelynne Cornish and Philip Samartzis

The Australian Alps produces 80% of Australia’s freshwater supply yet only comprises 1% of its landmass. Through massive earthworks, hydroelectric power schemes and complex technical infrastructure, pressurised water is mobilized to generate the electricity required to power the everyday spaces that we inhabit. CURRENT is designed to provoke a greater appreciation of the systems and technologies necessary to preserve the quality of life we are accustomed to. The artworks produced for this exhibition illustrate the intrinsic complexity underscoring sustainable practices by focusing on the co-dependent relationship of the natural and constructed environment and their attendant ecologies.

29 September – 29 October

Opening Thursday 28 September, 6-8pm

CONEY ISLAND
John Aslanidis| ANGELA BRENNAN | SADIE CHANDLER | RENEE COSGRAVE
DAVID HARLEY | MATTHEW JOHNSON | WILMA TABACCO

Curated by Jane O’Neill

Coney Island presents artists working with the language of abstract painting. For each artist, the project of abstraction is an entirely personal one, built upon their own history of looking and making. Whilst recognising individual approaches, the exhibition also celebrates shared interests; between consistent patterning and loose compositions; between hard-edged painting and softer bruised lines. Just as we are drawn to the flickering lights and optical illusions fabricated in amusement parks, Coney Islanddesignates thegallery as a space for the reception of lights, colours and lines.
