Neuromedical Chart Review Speaker Bios

Paul Lebby, Ph.D.: Dr. Lebby is a U.C. Berkeley graduate and returned to complete his doctoral education and clinical training in a joint U.C. Berkeley and U.C. San Francisco program within the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery on the Parnassus Campus of UCSF. He remains on medical staff at UCSF, in addition to Community Regional Medical Center and Children’s Hospital Central California. He carries an academic rank of Full Professor and is a National Academy of Neuropsychology Fellow.

Over the past more than two decades, he has specialized in complex neurodiagnoses and assessment of brain functioning or dysfunction, and is one of the few specialists in the country that is credentialed to perform brain mapping procedures during awake brain surgery, via interventional radiology procedures using catheterization of the brain, and more currently using advanced neuroradiology techniques such as functional MRI and DTI tractography. He has formal training and more than 20 years experience integrating neuroimaging into his clinical practice and provides instruction for medical students, residents and professional clinicians at his local hospitals as well as around the country.

Dr. Lebby is a published author of several book chapters, the most recent being, “Pediatric Traumatic Encephalopathies,” and has also published research articles and Chaired over 60 doctoral dissertations. He has developed and published two screening measures of neurocognitive functioning, one for children and one for adolescents which are currently being used across the country. He has written two books, the first with his intern as the co-author, “Traumatic Brain Injury in Children and Adolescents,” and the second as the sole author, “Brain Imaging: A Guide for Clinicians” which recently hit the shelves and is published by Oxford University Press.

Dr. Lebby is also a sought after speaker and presents several times a year across the country.

Michael Nelson, M.D.: Dr. Nelson attended the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at the University of Washington in 2002. Practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area since then, Dr. Nelson has developed his life to care for seniors. He is the only local board certified neurologist who performs house calls. Dr. Nelson is the founder and CEO of Memento Care Home. While he has a broad general knowledge of neurology, he has a special interest in dementia and Parkinson's disease.

Jeanette Cavano, Pharm. D., CGP:After obtaining her doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco, Jeanette Cavano went on to complete post-graduate fellowship training in psychiatry and managed care. During her fellowship, she developed a particular interest in geriatric psychiatry and has worked in various long-term care settings for most of her career. She has also lectured on the topic of dementia in the UCSF School of Pharmacy for the last 16 years. She currently conducts medication regimen review and provides other clinical pharmacy services primarily for residents with psychiatric and dementia diagnoses at the San Francisco Behavioral Health Center and Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco.
