2016 Hiawatha Valley League Track & Field Championships

Entry Limits Per Team: Three (3) entries in each Individual Event. One (1) Relay team for each Relay Event.

Individual Participation Limits: (MSHSL Rules and Policies)

A.  4 total events (track and field), but not in excess of three (3) track or field events in arriving at

the combination of four.

B. If a competitor competes in three (3) track events, only two (2) events may be 800 meters or longer

(Including relays).

Scratches and Replacement: Scratches with full replacement will be allowed through the end of the

Coaches’/scratch meeting. Scratches only following this meeting.

- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -

Implement Weigh-in and Inspection: All Shots and Discs must be approved by weigh-in and inspection

before they will be allowed into competition. Weigh-ins will be in the storage garage at the South end of the track.

Competition Surfaces: The eight (8) lane track, runways, and approaches are an all-weather surface.

Spike lengths are 3/16” maximum. (Pin or Christmas tree spikes are not allowed)

Also, the use of tape on ANY & ALL surfaces is NOT allowed!

Small colored chalk marks or items similar to a half tennis ball or small bean bag is recommended for

relay go marks and appropriate field events.

As per Rule 7-6-12, marks are only allowed outside the lines on Long/Triple Jump or Pole Vault runways.

Shot Put and Discus rings are concrete.

Staging Areas: All races will be staged at the West end of the straightaway behind the starting lines for

the 100 & 110 meter races. Runners and Relay Teams must check in with the staging clerk.

Preferred Lanes: All races will be seeded 4-5-3-6-2-7-1-8 except for the 100/110 hurdles & 100 meter dashes

which will be 5-4-6-3-7-2-8-1. Seeding will follow National Federation guidelines for all entry marks.

Timing: Wayzata Results, Inc. There will be someone at the finish line announcing lap times.

All Running Events will be by Timed Finals. There will be NO preliminary heats in any Running Events.

Field Event Procedures: (see Time Schedule for event orders and estimated time frames)

Throws (Flighted) and Horizontal Jumps (Cafeteria-style) will be three (3) attempts with top 9

advancing to finals for 3 additional attempts. Finals conducted in reverse order of performance.

High Jump and Pole Vault will be by continuous active (5-alive) rotation.

Starting Heights and intervals for these Vertical Jumps will be confirmed at coaches’ meeting.

Team Scoring: 12 - 10 - 8 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 – 2 – 1 in all events (Individual and Relays)

Restrictions: The football field is off-limits at all times for camps. All non-participating athletes, coaches, and spectators are to stay off the track and infield, plus clear of the finish line area during competition, especially directly across from the F.A.T. camera.

One (1) coach per team will be allowed in the coaches’ box near the High Jump and Pole Vault.

Teams are advised to dress at home as locker rooms are NOT available.

The press box is restricted for use by meet officials only.

Team camps may be set up anywhere outside of the competition area. Please make sure your team area is cleaned up at the conclusion of the meet.

Supplies: Each school must bring their own batons, Shots & Discus’, athletic tape, etc.

Starting blocks will be provided. Standing start blocks should be provided by the individual schools.

Chalk for marking purposes will be provided.

Each school will be responsible for own equipment and valuables.

Injuries: A representative(s) from Mayo Clinic’s Sports Medicine will be at the meet and available to assist

with any injuries and other related problems.

Complete Results: Will be emailed to all coaches immediately following the meet. Results will also be posted live on Wayzata Results Website.

Awards: A trophy to the Girls and Boys Team Champions. Three (3) medals will also be awarded to

those respective champion teams intended for coach(s) and manager(s).

Medals will be awarded to place-finishers 1 through 3 for all Individual Events and Relays,

with ribbons awarded for place-finishers 4 through 8 in all events.

The only award ceremony will be to present the team trophies at the conclusion of the meet.

Packets of medals and ribbons will be distributed at the conclusion of the meet from the press box.

Individual All-Hiawatha Valley League Award Considerations:

* All 1st place finishers (including relays)

* All 2nd place finishers (NOT relays)

* Any competitor(s) who equals or betters an existing conference record

* Any participant who scores 12 or more points during this meet (relay points are NOT divided by 4)

* Hardship provision presented in writing by his/her coach at the coaches’ meeting and shall be voted by secret ballot.

Admission: HVL-established (maximum) admission prices of $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students.

Bus Parking: Buses can park in the West parking lot on the SW end of the parking lot after dropping athletes off.

Concessions: There will be a concession stand available during the meet.

Results to Media: Sent to Rochester Post-Bulletin. All other requests must be submitted to: or you are welcome to forward the results onto your local papers.

Meet Workers: All schools are required to provide two qualified workers to assist with the conference track and field meet. Those individuals are to be paid by your district.
