Vietnam Portfolio Project

Objective: Develop an in depth research portfolio discussing the Vietnam War Era, including the causes, outcomes, major events and leaders.

Guidelines:

1.  All contents must be typed. (12 pt font, Times New Roman, 1 inch margins)

2.  You will be graded on neatness, grammar and writing style. 10 points

Directions: Using Chapter 51-53 and outside research sources complete the following tasks:

1.  You must provide a Title Page (5 points) with a photo collage. Include the following:

A.  Name

B.  Date

C.  Title

2.  30 points Provide a written analysis (approx. 1-2 pg) of the Vietnam War, make sure to address the following:

A.  How did the U.S. get involved in the war?

B.  Who was fighting in the war and why?

C.  What were the goals of the U.S. in the war?

D.  Explain the different fighting strategies that were implemented by all countries involved.

E.  Discuss the outcomes of the war.

F.  How was the U.S. society affected by the war?

G.  How were the veterans of the war affected?

3.  15 points Provide a detailed hand drawn map of Vietnam. Include the following:

A.  All major cities

B.  Major Battles (like Dien Bien Phu, My Lai, Ho Chi Minh Trail, Tet Offensive sites, etc.)

C.  All surrounding bodies of water

D.  Surrounding countries

4.  15 points Discover an editorial cartoon about the Vietnam War. It can be pro-war or anti-war. It must be included with your paper. Copy and paste it on a “Political Cartoon Page.” Answer the following questions about your cartoon on that same page:

A.  What issue is this political cartoon about?

B.  What is the cartoonist’s opinion on this issue?

C.  What other opinion can you imagine another person having on this issue?

D.  Did you find this cartoon persuasive? Why or why not?

5.  15 points Provide a one – two page reaction to two of the key events during this Vietnam Era listed below. You must react to what happened at Kent State University in May of 1970. Then choose any other two items on the list and identify the event, its significance/impact and what your opinion is. Be specific and generous with your information. You may choose two of any of the following:

C.  What did the writer want you to think after listening to this song? What is the message about the war?
