HOW TO COMPLETE A SQ3R PACKET
STEP ONE: SURVEY
For the first step you will familiarize yourself with the new chapter by writing down the key terms in the chapter headings. You will ALSO look at EVERY figure in the chapter and write down what you see. This is the first sheet you will complete of the SQ3R packet.
STEP TWO: QUESTION
The second step in SQ3R is to question. You will write down the headings and subheadings for the entire chapter. Next you will turn that heading/sub-heading in to a question and write the question down in the appropriate spot. HINT: You can use the key concept questions at the beginning of each section to write some of the questions for the GREEN sub-headings.
STEP THREE: READ
Finally you are ready to start reading the chapter. Read the first section. While you are reading, look specifically for the answers to the questions you made out of the headings and subheadings. BUT DON’T WRITE THE ANSWERS DOWN. JUST READ!!!!!
STEP FOUR: RECITE
In your own words answer the questions you wrote for the first section. If you can’t answer the question GO BACK and REREAD the appropriate sub-section looking more carefully for the answer.
Also answer the section assessment questions for each section on a separate sheet of paper.
STEP FIVE: RELATE
Think about and comment on how what you read and learned in this chapter Relates to and/or impacts your life on the lines provided at the end of the packet. Be specific in your answer and use as many vocabulary words as you can. All lines provided for you should be used to receive full credit. “NOTHING” or “I DON’T KNOW” WILL BE AN AUTOMATIC ZERO FOR THE ENTIRE PACKET!!!!!!!!
CHAPTER REVIEW
In addition to the SQ3R packet, you will receive instructions for completing parts of the Chapter Assessment in your textbook. This assignment should be attached to the back of the SQ3R packet. You are strongly encouraged to make use of the chapter Study Guide in your textbook also. You should now be well prepared for the chapter test.
