MAT CLASSIC 23

November 30, 2010

The WIAA State Wrestling Championship MAT CLASSIC 23 is scheduled for the Tacoma Dome on Friday and Saturday, February 18-19, 2011. For several years we have involved high school student athletic trainers on the medical staff and we are planning to do so again. Only one high school student athletic trainer may be attached to a certified athletic trainer-teacher at any time.

The rules regarding high school student trainer involvement are as follows:

Students must be specifically connected with, physically present with and continuously supervised on-site by a certified athletic trainer who is their customary supervisor/teacher/mentor in school, and who is a member of the MAT CLASSIC Medical Staff.

Assignment of the supervising certified trainer-teacher on-site (particular mat area, training room, etc.) determines assignment of student. No guarantee exists that students will necessarily be assigned to their particular school’s mat area or matches (just as is the current practice with certified athletic trainers, although we try, as you know, to be flexible).

Each student must complete the attached application (may be completed in WORD or printed).

The student’s interaction with wrestlers must be under the close supervision and responsibility of the certified trainer-teacher to whom the student is “attached”.

It is acceptable for the supervising certified athletic trainer to have a different student on each of the days of the tournament, but the limit of 1 student per supervising certified athletic trainer-teacher at any one time must not be exceeded.

The supervising certified athletic trainer will be provided one extra floor pass to be circulated among their sponsored student trainers for admission to the dome and onto the floor. The student trainer will be considered, within their allowed level of responsibility, members of the medical staff, subject to all of the conduct rules and professional obligations such status carries with it.

If you are interested in having a student(s) participate under your supervision, please send their name(s) and data (as noted above) on a single list, signed by you. This information should reach me no later than December 21, 2010, and further details will be sent directly to the sponsoring Certified Athletic Trainer.

I'll be looking forward to hearing from you, and to your student trainers having some interesting and meaningful experiences. Please give me a call if you need further information, or if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Timothy P. Manson
