Has at least an 80% FTE appointment
Does not have current extramural funding of more than $50,000
Did not receive URC funding in the past 5 years
Received URC funding more than 5 years ago and the proposal is for a new area of research
Meets the career stage requirement (junior faculty member working to become established in their research discipline or others entering a new area of investigation)
Has a record of prior activity that indicates a devotion to scholarship and the potential for high quality achievement
The application includes:
Biographical sketch of no more than 4 pages. Includes name, educational background, employment history, awards and honors, and publications (last five years and earlier, representative papers).
Listing of Research Support within 5 years (past, current and pending): Lists all past, current and pending research support from internal and external sources of funding, which includes the project title, project period and the direct and indirect funds awarded. For current or pending awards, describes the scientific and budgetary overlap with the URC proposal. If new faculty, includesstart-up funding.
Statement of availability of other sources of funding
Budget justification
Human Subjects description and IRB approval information(if needed)
Animal Research description and IACUC approval information (if needed)
Letter(s) of support from key collaborators (if needed)

The proposal meets the following requirements:
Use of funds as "seed money" for collection of preliminary data or to demonstrate feasibility, thereby bolstering prospects for future support from external sponsors.
Innovative
A panel of reviewers with diverse backgrounds could understand the project
Does not exceed five (5) single-spaced typewritten pages (12 pt. font minimum) including tables and illustrations, excluding references
