i.BMS physicals will be held this Thursday, April 7th. This will help any students needing a sports physical for next year’s athletic teams.

ii.“The Lion King, Jr.” was presented by the BMS students in the Choral and Drama department. This program was very successful and was also presented to the 5th graders during their visit at the end of March.

iii.The BMS bands and choirs competed in the Large Group Performance Evaluations and all of our groups received straight superior ratings, which is a very rare occurrence. Mrs. Williams and Mrs. McCoy did exceptionally well in preparing our students for their evaluations.

iv.The BMS Jr. Beta Club inducted almost seventy students on March 10th. A ceremony was held to honor their successes and each student was presented with a certificate and pin. The new officers were also recognized during this ceremony.

v.The Houston County SPLOST passed overwhelmingly and the extra penny sales tax will continue for the next five years.

vi. Coach Hershberger and his wife welcomed two new babies, a boy and a girl in the middle of March. They arrived a little early, but are home now and are doing well.

vii.We have hired a new secretary with the news of Mrs. Kay Squires retiring; Mrs. Pat Pierce will start in July. Mrs. Pierce previously worked here at BMS as a paraprofessional and an SST clerk. We will also be hiring a new bookkeeper. Our former bookkeeper, Mrs. Relafordhas accepted a position at the Board office.

viii.Be Fit Be Cool program was held on March19th to boost up the students interest in having a healthy lifestyle. A presentation was held and the students were then given an opportunity to get up and try Zumba.

ix.BMS Career Day was held on March 25 and was very successful. Mrs. Vicki Walker, a former teacher here at BMS, along with Mrs. Keily, Mrs. Bourke and the otherconnection teacher helped with this day.

  1. Georgia Milestones (GMAS)

i.This will be the first year that all three grades will be taking the Milestones on the computer. We will be using all four computer labs along with three to four portable computer labs to administer the test.

ii.The 8th grade will be a gate year and those students must pass the Reading/ ELA and the Math portions of the GMAS to go on to high school. Students that do not pass those tests will be remediated and retested in May. The 8th grade Coordinate Algebra students will not take the GMAS math portion but rather the EOC on May 2nd, which will count towards their class average.

  1. Honors Nights:

i.6th & 7th Grades will be held on May 12th at 6:00 p.m. and 7:20 a.m.

ii.8th Grade will have a dinner banquet on Monday, May 16th at 6:00 p.m.

We will know more as the year comes to an end. Ms. Waggoner, our Art teacher, has taken a medical retirement and we are in the process of acquiring a new Art teacher.
