8th Grade Math - Equation Calendar Project
“An Equation a Day Keeps The EOG Stress Away!”
In this project, you will put your Algebra skills to work with equations and inequalities. You have been given a 31-day calendar that you will fill in with the solutions to 31 different problems. When you are finished, the value of each solution should match the date of the month. The calendar has been broken down as follows:
Sundays – 2-step equations
Mondays – 2-step equations with a negative number
Tuesdays – 2-step equations with a decimal or fraction
Wednesdays – Distributive Property problems
Thursdays – Combine Like Terms (on the same side) problems
Fridays – Variables on Both Sides problems
Saturdays – Inequalities (and their graphs)
Instructions
1. Solve the list of 24 equations/inequalities. Once you have a solution, you will need to COPY THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM into the box that matches your answer.
2. Show all of your work inside the box and CIRCLE your answer. (For example, if your answer is 5, the original problem needs to be written in box 5, all work shown, and the answer “x = 5” circled.)
3. There are 7 days that ask you to create your own problem with a specific answer. (For example, on the 11th, you must write an equation that includes the distributive property and has the answer of “x = 11” when solved.) Work does not have to be shown for these problems, only the problem written on the line given. However, the answer must work out and the answer actually match that date.
