Welcome to the <years> school year! You play a vital role in your child’s academic success. The first step to academic achievement is establishing excellent school attendance habits. Student attendance is critical to student achievement at all grade levels.

In order to support student achievement, the LAUSD set anattendance goal for all students to maintain a Proficient/Advanced attendance rate of 96% or higher throughout the school year. This means that students must have:

No more than one absence for every five weeks (25 instructional days) of school
No more than SEVEN TOTAL absences in the school year

We are focusing our school efforts to improve student attendance because we want all of our students to succeed and graduate from high school. As the Pupil Services and Attendance Counselor for our school, I will promote daily attendance through incentives, awards, parent/guardian education, professional development, and community partnerships. I will be tracking and sharing attendance information with our school community throughout the school year.

It is important that your child is present at school every day and on time. Here are some suggestions to establish positive attendance habits:

Schedule all appointments for your child during non-school hours
Post school calendars and schedules in a visible place
Plan family vacations on non-school days only
Help your child develop a positive attitude toward school by encouraging him/her to participate in school activities

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar <years>! Usted tiene un rol muy importante en el éxito académico de su hijo/a. El primer paso hacia los logros académicos es establecer hábitos de asistencia ejemplar. La asistencia del estudiante en todos los grados influye la graduación de secundaria.

Para apoyar los logros estudiantiles, El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Ángeles ha fijado una meta de asistencia para todo estudiante de mantener asistencia Competente/Avanzadocon una cifra de 96% o más a través del año escolar.

Esto significa que los estudiantes deben:

No tener más de un día de falta por cada 5 semanas de clase (cada 25 días de clase)
No tener más de un TOTAL de SIETE ausencias en todo el año escolar.
