You have the opportunity to work on a more challenging option during the Tom Sawyer unit. Please review this contract with your parents and indicate your decision below.

Challenge Plan:

#1:Read the book Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain. You will participate in some class discussions and activities but you will be dismissed from many in order to work on this contract. Your teacher will let you know each day if you will work with the class or on the contract individually. In addition, you will be taking the daily quizzes with the class.

#2: Complete Activities Follow the directions on each section of the alternate activities. Complete each as is directed.

#3:Share: Plan to share at least one of your activities with the class. Talk to your teacher about whether you will make a presentation or a display of some sort.

#4:TS Notebook: You will be responsible to bring your TS notebook each LA day. They will be collected periodically without warning. Be prepared, organized, and ready to turn your notebook in each day.

Challenge Group Membership Criteria: 90% average on the last three literature quizzes, O’s in work habits, teacher discretion based on: classroom performance, on task behavior, demonstration of high quality work on independent assignments.

DO NOT GET BEHIND! If you are having problems understanding a passage, come in and ask for clarification BEFORE the quiz.

Working Conditions: Students who do not follow these conditions will be asked to participate with the whole class activities rather than work on alternate activities.

  1. Stay on task at all times with the alternate activities you are working on.
  2. Don’t interrupt the teacher when she is teaching. Save or write down your questions so you can ask them when the teacher is available.
  3. Never brag about your opportunities to work on alternate activities.
  4. Don’t bother other students and don’t call attention to yourself.
  5. If you need to work in the library, use a pass and come and go quietly from the classroom. Stay on task in the library.
