The 1920s Magazine/Wikispaces Project
Project Goal:
The class will work as a publishing team to create a magazine that highlights the 1920s in America. We will publish our magazine on wikispaces! Mrs. Hansen and Mr. Shephard will provide a wikispaces tutorial on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.
Because most people were not living during the 1920s, much of the information for this project will come from research. Articles may, however, contain information that is fictional. While students must base the majority of their writing on factual events and information, there is some freedom in this project to be creative and adventurous. Articles may be presented as editorials, reviews, society pages, obituaries, features, cartoons etc.
Every article (each student is responsible for submitting at least one article) submitted for the magazine must be typed. Each article must contain at least one parenthetical citation and an illustration. Students will use MLA research methods to insert factual elements into their articles. The magazine will conclude with a Works Cited page which lists all resources used in the magazine. You may use Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher.
Individual Responsibilities/Requirements:
Each member of the class must submit one article in his/her subject area. Articles must have at least 300 words.
These articles must include factual information that is obtained through MLA research; this information must use parenthetical citations. One article from the group must be related to The Great Gatsby. Further, the individual must submit correctly formatted works cited entries for the magazine’s Works Cited page.
Each article must be accompanied by an illustration.
Articles submitted without all of the requirements – research, documentation, an illustration, and works cited entry – will not receive full credit in grading.
Team Responsibilities/Requirements:
1. Teams are responsible for making certain that each member of the team is on-task during research.
2. Teams are responsible for making sure article topics are not duplicated within the team.
3. Teams are responsible for helping one another out with research questions, typing, illustrating, and writing.
4. Teams must also make certain that all members submit at least one article to the magazine.
5. Each team is responsible for submitting at least four advertisements (one may be from the 20s; three must be original) to the magazine. Advertisements must be illustrated.
6. Teams are responsible for submitting a magazine title and a cover which features the title the team has selected.
7. Teams are responsible for creating a presentation for the Roaring Twenties Dinner Party!!
8. Each group should bring a snack for the party as well!
