Christina Aguilera Biography
Christina Maria Aguilera was born on December 18, 1980, in Staten Island, New York with Irish and Spanish ancestry. By the age of five she had memorized all the songs from The Sound of Music. She started to compete in local singing competitions became known as "the little girl with the big voice." Due to jealousy though, Christina's peers began to bully her to the point where her house was vandalized and their car tires were slashed. Her family eventually moved to Pennsylvania and kept her singing talent hidden from the public. In 1991, Christina Aguilera auditioned for Disney Channel's "The New Mickey Mouse Club" and was rejected. However, in 1993, they invited her back along with famous singers like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. Christina Aguilera became a global success in 1998, when Disney hired her to record a song for Mulan called "Reflection," which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination and a record deal with RCA Records. The next year she had her breakthrough hit, "Genie in a Bottle," which sold 8 million copires in U.S. alone and reached worldwide fans when over 15 million copies were sold. Since then she gained millions of fans and won many awards, including a Grammy for best new female artist.
By the late 200, Aguilera released her first Spanish album "Mi Reflejo" with translated versions of her songs from the English debut album and new Spanish tracks, which led to a Latin Grammy Award and 3 million copies sold worldwide.
Christina Aguilera endured many hardships when she was young but now today she is a worldwide known singer worthy of all the praises and awards she has been credited at such a young age. "The music is who I am," she confidently asserts.
