Role Project 50 Event Support Volunteer (Sheffield)

Role summary Provide event support for a varied program of events to mark Shelter’s 50th anniversary.

Suggested Involvement You will be allocated a particular event and time commitment required will be dependable on this. The planned events are as follows:

-  Shelter at Tramlines Festival: 23rd -24th July

-  Photography Exhibition at The Winter Gardens: 1st-12th August

-  Sheffield Carol Concert at Sheffield Cathedral: 14th December

Location Various locations in Sheffield City Centre.

Why get involved with Shelter?

More than one million people a year come to us for advice and support via our website, help lines, and national network of services. We help people to find and keep a home in a place where they can thrive, and we tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies and practice. This year is our 50th anniversary and to mark this occasion, Shelter have designed a varied calendar of events which will seek to further highlight the plight of our clients which although altered, is still as prominent in its existence 50 years on. Through Project 50, Shelter hopes to raise the profile of its Sheffield Hub to encourage new users and supporters of our service and to feed important discussion on the housing crisis in 2016.

As a Project 50 Volunteer, you will be an invaluable part of our team as we strive to raise our profile in Sheffield, to thank our existing supporters and to inspire new support by highlighting the importance of our services, which support thousands of clients a year and are committed to delivering more of what we do to the people who need us most. With your support, Shelter will seek to attract the attention of a wide and varied audience through the mediums of art, cinema, performance and panel discussion.

Main Tasks can include

·  Supporting staff with the preparation of venues and materials ahead of the events.

·  Meeting and greeting guests and monitoring our guest list.

·  Stewarding guests, answering face to face queries and offering accessibility assistance.

·  Promoting Shelter services and signposting the public to their local Shelter Hub.

·  Distributing promotional materials to guests.

Skills and Abilities Required

·  Ability to organise, demonstrate excellent time keeping and work on your own initiative.

·  Confidence or a desire to develop confidence in working with the general public.

·  The ability to work as part of a team and value others.

·  Willingness to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health and safety, equality and diversity and confidentiality.

·  Willingness to travel to various locations within Sheffield City Centre.
